North Star Staðarflöt, hotel in Hvammstangi

Featuring self-service check-in, North Star Staðarflöt is located half way between Reykjavik and Akureyri. Each simple room offers a TV and a private bathroom with shower.

Perfect place as a mid-point in a long drive. Virtually ZERO to do, including only a gas station grocery only. But as a "motel 6" type option, it was better than average.

Hótel Hvítserkur, hotel in Hvammstangi

Situated in Hvammstangi, Hótel Hvítserkur has a garden, terrace, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property. Boasting family rooms, this property also provides guests with a children's playground.

The two guys that run this place have apparently taken it on in the last couple of years and are very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. There is a pool table in the main “hall” area. And the breakfast was delicious (there’s a waffle maker!) Dinner can also be provided but you need to give 48hrs notice

Túnfífill Guesthouse - free hot tub and sauna, cozy and quiet, hotel in Hvammstangi

Set in Hvammstangi, Túnfífill Guesthouse - free hot tub and sauna, cozy and quiet offers accommodation with a sauna, a hot tub and a steam room. The property features garden and inner courtyard views....

Owners have done the "extra" mile here. It was the most welcooming experience in a hotel/room i ever had. They had thought of every need you may have. You can find anything you want in the house with instructions, from how to make your waffles (they offer you all the ingredients there with homemade jam) to musical instruments, to turn on the hot pool so that you find it ready when you go. Highly recommened. And the best location for northern lights, we just went out of the house and we saw the magical show of northern lights above us.

Eyri Seaside Houses, hotel in Hvammstangi

Set in Hvammstangi in the North Iceland region, Eyri Seaside Houses has a garden. This property offers access to a patio, free private parking and free WiFi. The holiday home features family rooms.

The house is beautiful located at the edge of the fjord, There is another house just next to it. There is enough privacy for both houses. The interior is made with love. I loved the spacious bathroom. The bed was very comfy. When the sun shines it can get very hot inside, but we could open all kind of windows, so it was no problem, i liked the sustainability of using the sunheat.

Tjörn 1, hotel in Hvammstangi

Tjörn 1 is a recently renovated guest house in Hvammstangi, where guests can make the most of its garden and shared lounge. The property features mountain and garden views.

I had a lovely stay here. Very comfy bed, beautiful views, nice kitchen and bathroom and very, very quiet. A real Icelandic experience which I am so happy to have experienced. The host was very welcoming and friendly and told me a lot about sheep farming in Iceland. Just be prepared for a fairly long gravel road. It is in the middle of nowhere.

This hotel was easy to find off the main Route 1.

This hotel was easy to find off the main Route 1. Accommodation was on the basic side, however it was clean and tidy. 24/7 tea & coffee available from the dining area. Staff were friendly and assisted where necessary. Reasonable buffet breakfast. It is more on the expensive side compared to other hotels we had stayed in but due to its location, it appears to be reasonably priced. There is plenty of off road parking. The village itself is quite compact but there is a lack of local restaurants. We can recommend the Sjavarborg Restaurant, on the quayside for evening meal.

We only stayed a night, arriving in a blizzard. It was absolutely stunning, the hot tub and sauna in the snow were simply breath-taking. We didn't even get a chance to check out Hvammstangi, unfortunately, but next time I will definitely stay here again!

We loved everything: the cottage, the view, the nice short talk with the owner, the aurora on our second evening! The main restaurant at the village near the cottage is pricy but very good: save for it if needed, it is worth it (and needed as there is no kitchen in the cottage 😉). The water could be ice cold at first, be patient, it will soon be (very) warm. Talk to the owner before your stay, it will explain the reason better than me! One last point: the owner talked about a path to go to the shore of the fjord, but we didn't found it. Make sure he explain it to you clearly.

We stayed here for one night.

We stayed here for one night. We where a little concerned considering the remote area of the country. The owner greeted us very kindly and made us feel like at home. Once you step in you can feel the love she has put in to this place. I was really happy on how clean the house is. The bed limens where so clean and ironed. ♥️ the backyard was adorable. She had waffles for us and a home made jelly made. ♥️

Just a short walk out of town but far enough to be quiet and private. Guesthouse was a wonderful surprise. Modern, clean and a very well equipped kitchen for guests. Host even threw a pot of coffee on in the morning. Full fjord view from our bedroom. Turned out to be one of our best overnights in Iceland.

The hotel sign was large so we didn't miss the hotel. It was a bit different to let the hotel people know we arrived by calling a number from the reception phone. I hadn't realized they had sent an email with the needed information since I had been driving and hadn't checked email. The room looked as advertised. It was nice, very clean. Breakfast was nicely displayed with many choices. Nice spread for only 4 customers.

The place is wonderful. Great climate and quiet place in the remote area. We really like this gesthause, for its originality and wonderful host. The guesthouse is at the end of the fjord with a wonderful view. A real Icelandic climate in the middle of the nature and sheep. Nearby you can find several beaches with seals. In nice weather, you can see the Westfjords. I recommend this place to everyone.

Of the 4 places we stayed in Iceland, This was the best one. It is a great old farmhouse with tons of charm. History of the house was available to read as well. The view is amazing, on a cliff looking over the water. The downstairs was comfortable for hanging out. Kitchen well stocked and the bed was was very comfortable. I can't say enough. If you are travelling the Ring Road stay here.

Very clean and relatively new one bedroom flat a few minutes walk from the town center (e.g. Seal Center). Pull out couch is classic Ikea, typical of so many short stay hotels. Shower and kitchen were nice. Speedy Wifi. Close to the town pool, which we enjoyed. This is our choice overnight pit-stop when we drive from Reykjavik to Akuyeri.

The hotel was well located with a friendly welcome and lots of information. The room was very comfortable and we really enjoyed being able to use the lovely sitting room. Cooking facilities were basic with no hotplates, but there was a large fridge. Beer and soft drinks were available up until 7(?). Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Breatkfast was outstanding and included homemade bread that was the best of our trip (including some very fine hotels), and many other delicious choices. We felt very well cared for and were so glad that we stayed at this lovely little guesthouse. The room was small but very clean and we enjoyed the peaceful neighborhood.

Beautiful guesthouse with a nice view. A warm welcome from the hosts, we felt at home in no time ! The kitchen is very well-equipped. The shared bathroom is more rustic but it was clean and that time of the year, there is not too much people to share it with. We loved our stay at Guesthouse 46, great value !

Our stay at Eyri Seaside Houses was lovely. The accommodations were modern, clean and well designed. We especially loved the owner's photographs and portraits of the surrounding area. They were very kind and introduced us to their horses and the history of Icelandic horses. It was such a nice stay.
