From intimate temples to impressive promenades, from ancient ruins to 20th-century constructions, and from Metros to rickshaws – New Delhi is a city of strong contrasts and a true microcosm of Indian culture and history.
Step through the Lahore Gate and explore the Red Fort, a famous red sandstone building with marble halls and gardens filled with streams and fountains. Or admire stunning Humayun’s Tomb, which has been described as the predecessor of the great Taj Mahal.

Not sure why anyone would voluntarily stay in this horrid city.. Extreme pollution, grinding poverty (except for the "haves"), filth and garbage everywhere (except in the "have's areas), beggers at every stop light, smell of sewage here, there and everywhere, sever heat and dust (or cold), a fair number of really horrible taxi drivers, negligence and corruption in any government services—and Air India is an abomination (unreachable by phone-over 20 tries-text, or email.. though I did get a return email with a totally unrelated answer nothing to do with my important, urgent question). Shockingly, to get an even half way decent hotel is aburdly expensive for Asia. At least $100 day. I have spent years of my life in 3rd world countries, and have travelled to 35 countries (many of them very poor) so not new to these issues, but Delhi is neither save nor enjoyable (though I know a few mega millionaire tourists who really, really loved it). Go to Bangkok and actually have a great holiday.

Fantastic, fun, chaos. I’ll be back, for sure.
Fantastic, fun, chaos. I’ll be back, for sure. Not so much comfortable (though there are definitely luxury stays available for a good price if that’s your thing) rather just the right amount of fun discomfort to ensure you’re always finding something new and exciting. After a few days, the hustle and bustle easily starts to feel familiar and fun - that’s when the real exploration begins! Just be sure to keep your wits about you.
Some of the most beautiful forts, temples and historical monuments I’ve ever seen.
Delicious food - though I’m not sure my stomach has quite forgiven me yet!

I recommend cross-checking reviews on Google Maps. They correspond to reality. Reviews on Booking.com of Hotel Le Mountare are rubbish.

A beautiful city.
Historical.
Monuments erected by ruling dynasties over the centuries. Some need restoration and protection.
The sprawling bungalows for the ruling elite are probably the best official accommodation in the world.
Many dining choices. Enjoyed my first visit to Jame Masjid alley where food in the bustling area was irresistible and relative affordable.
Uber cars need to be better.

Nice and well kept roads.
Nice and well kept roads. Lovely gardens and greenary around. All monuments and newly built structures are worth visiting, preferably at your own pace. Porters and cab drivers at the Railway station were cheaters. No helpdesk there for booking cabs.

Extremely intense and colourful experience, surprisingly safe and welcoming place and people, although some prior travelling experience would be recommended to fully enjoy Delhi. We loved visiting monuments, temples and markets. We avoided eating in the street. We traveled by metro, Uber and “tuktuk” (rickshaw). Avoid walking in the street it is quite impossible due to the chaotic transit.
· I stayed at the Hotel Lotus stay near airport, and I had a wonderful experience. The hotel is located beside main road. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated the complimentary coffee in the room. The breakfast buffet is also excellent, with a wide variety of Indian and continental options. Overall, I had a great stay and I would definitely recommend it to others

My aged father was traveling to Delhi and he stayed at the hotel. The hotel is very centrally located near New Delhi railway station. The staff is very courteous, so much so that they accomodated him when the return train was delayed. Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Delhi and wanting to stay in Paharganj / Near Connaught Place
Second stay here during our holiday and once again exceeded expectations. Service is industry-leading with staff who take real pride in their work, food excellent, facilities very good and rooms exceptionally comfy and well appointed. Everything is either on point by the lofty standards of Indian 5 star hotels, or is a cut above.
The Hotel is beautiful and comfortable and it’s in the real centre of New Delhi life! The staff is amazing and Asif, the hotel manager, is the perfect host ready to suggest the best to live in India, always available and very kind.
I finally recommend this hotel for your visit in Delhi.
