Rolling Hills, Magnificent Gardens and Sandy Beaches
On the north coast of Spain, the seaside city of Santander is the capital of Cantabria. This beautiful city has it all: from stunning beaches and green gardens to captivating museums and a bustling central area.
Overlooking the lighthouse of the Mauro Island, the popular sandy beach of Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio. These magnificent gardens feature Canarian palm trees, blue eucalyptus and colorful flower beds.
Located on the Magdalena Peninsula, the imposing Palacio de la Magdalena has a neoclassic French and English style. Wander around the green gardens and visit the small zoo, home to penguins, seals and other sea animals.
The Cathedral of Santander is a historic landmark in the center of the city. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, this historic monument consists of two Gothic churches. The Alameda de Oviedo Boulevard is a shopping paradise where you can find everything you need.
Enjoy a walk on the wide seaside promenade, where you'll find a big selection of cafés and restaurants to choose from. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels, guesthouses and apartments in the area. The international Santander Airport is the only one in Cantabria.
Airport shuttle service easy to find and cheap. Many hostels near bus terminal and cheap dormitories. Beach within walking distance from bus terminal. Dog-friendly. As a single woman you can be out near bus terminal with no problems, felt safe. Local busses cheap. Bus to Bilbao only 7,70 Euros. I really enjoyed Santander.

An interesting place to relax and discover the culture of the northern part of Spain, a safe city. Excellent cuisine famous for tapas/pintxos e.g. in the market in the city centre. Lots of parks and green spaces, friendly people. The Cabo Faro lighthouse is worth a visit, there are the beaches and their lively bustle, the Magdalena peninsula and the market in the centre of town, where you can enjoy a great meal. Lots of museums to visit.

A handsome, friendly city which is undoubtedly underrated as a destination. Safe, clean, lots of varied sights, beautiful coastal walks right from the city centre. Inexpensive! Superb prehistoric museum. Bring a jacket / umbrella, it's cooler and wetter than elsewhere in Spain. Note: it is a very monolingual area: other than in hotels and the occasional individual in a shop or cafe, most people there speak ONLY Spanish!

This was our 3rd visit to Santander in 12 months. For £31 per person return flights from the UK, it is cheaper than staying at home.
Santander is a vibrant, fun and energetic city with plenty to occupy any visitor. The food options are to many to count and the bars are fun and friendly through the evening.

I saw lots of reviews recommending this town.
I saw lots of reviews recommending this town. It was not for me. The planetarium, which many raved about? Closed. Has been closed for a while, actually. And apparently when it was open, it wasn't open to walk-ins. Tour groups only, pre-booked, minimum of 5 people.
Many restaurants were reservation only, actually. Many more were closed.
Saw my first homeless tent encampment ten minutes after arriving in the city. Graffiti everywhere. So many ATMs on Google maps, marked closed. Shops closed or going out of business. "Rebajas" signs everywhere. So many multi-lingual beggars.
Lots of smashed windows, sadly. The town looked like some of the worse areas of other cities I've been to, but all over. Even the church, which was recommended as a very nice building, had homeless and beggars in it. I was there on Sunday (so many things closed) and Monday. For a place supposedly well known for it's meals of fresh fish, mine was bland at best. For a Spanish town, surprisingly few tapas places.

Santander is so quaint.
Santander is so quaint. The historic buildings are beautiful. There are so many bars, tapas bars and restaurants everything is so easy to find and within walking distance. It just felt so clean and just a lovely place to visit we will be back. We went to Bilbao for the day on the bus from the bus station, but pre book your seats as it’s always busy. It takes about 1.5 hours but well worth it then you can jump on the tram line into the centre
There were too many bars and restaurants to mention but the one right outside the hotel was wonderful too.
The hotel is in a truly wonderful position overlooking the beautiful beach with fantastic views every way you look. The bedroom was big with a huge comfortable bed with a great balcony for those views. There was also a great bathroom with a huge shower area. The staff were so lovely and helpful, always greeting us as we passed through reception, particularly Lara who gave us plenty of information about the locality and looked after any requests we had. We would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Santander.
The place was spacious with a big bedroom and a nice living-room with a sofa bed, a television and a kitchen with a microwave and a hub. There was also a terrace of a decent size. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The location is great, just a minute away from Playa del Sardinero, the best beach in Santander. Within walking distance there are plenty of restaurants and bars, some of them with views to the beach. I will not hesitate to return to this hotel if I'm back to Santander. Excellent stay!
When we arrived, the staff were absolutely wonderful. Telling us exactly where we could park a vehicle .Couldn't do enough for us. before visiting you, we stopped in two big luxury hotels, one of which in barcelona . Their facilities were OK but not what I would classify 5 star or whatever stars they like to call them. Where as your facility was 5 star to me and my partner . Arrive and find slippers and bath robes provided was a nice touch and well appreciate .
Sweet Surrender is a beautiful, centrally located apartment in Santander, perfectly positioned between the beach and the city centre. This charming place is in a great city and has been well and modernly refurbished. The mattresses were very comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The air conditioning works efficiently, and the apartment has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It is highly recommended for its convenience and charm.
The room was very clean which was very important to me. Thanks for a hotel that actually takes pride in keeping the rooms clean and well cared for! Comfy bed, nice hot shower and quiet. Towels and sheets were good and clean without fragrance. Well designed. Nice staff. Bathroom good and clean condition, didn't see any mold or anything. I would stay there again.
The hotel is even better than the pictures suggest. An old facade but an ultra modern interior. Good parking under the hotel, good sized room and a great location on a a lovely beach.
The staff were great, universally warm, friendly and went out of their way to help.
We will certainly return if we take the ferry to Santander again.
The hotel was in a great location, and the staff and their hospitality was excellent, from welcoming us with a glass of cava to showing us personally to our room, nothing was too much trouble. We are extensively travelled and their attention to detail was something you rarely come across.
A "grand" hotel located in a very elegant district of Santander, next to beautiful Sardinero Beach. We were given an upgrade and I enjoyed an amazing view of the ocean. Highly recommended as the hotels in town that I saw during my stay in Santander do not have this charm.
The room was absolutely stunning. We had a fabulous view over the water and the park. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever had in a hotel. This is a great location too, as it’s next to the town and just a 25 minute walk to the nearest beach. We loved it!
The silence in the hotel and rooms. The breakfast room organised very well.
The position of the hotel right next to the Sandinero beach, plus plenty of good places to eat, the hotel restaurant was particularly good.
Excellent bus service into central Santander
What can you say Santander is a hidden gem Hotel and Staff were excellent close to the beach and some amazing bars.
Room was cleaned and a good size
Had a meal in the Hotel at night and it was outstanding Value for money and the menu was even in English
Everything! Can’t believe I scored this. Right on the Square, soundproof, clean, very well designed and decorated, easy checking process , friendly staff. Easily the best value I’ve had in Spain over the last 30+ days.
The staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect for Santander, you are right next to the beach and can walk in to town and local sights. A good clean, comfortable hotel.
nice hotel in the best location (town center, beach, gardens etc)
professional staff,I was even allowed to keep my car in the garage for the day (after departing the hotel)
thank you
