We went to the Munster V Scarlets match in Thomond Park, apart from the result (Munsters 1st loss of the season )it was a great experience . Public transport was cheap and timely . There were many places to eat and The Hamptons was exceptional . The ambience and menu choice was fantastic well worth the trip to Limerick :)
So easy to get to by car, train or plane. Visit to King John's Castle was so interesting and the afternoon in Bunratty was very educational. The city is compact so moving around is easy. Plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. Was a bit surprised to find a lot of coffee shops not open after 5.30 pm. There are quite a number of bars in town with food, music and entertainment. Don't be surprised if you bump into one of the current or former members of the Munster rugby team. Would recommend the Locke for dinner - the 'Sensational Seafood Pie' is aptly named, and the music in the bar is mainly traditional (very talented musicians) and you may even see some 'Sean Nos' dancing.
Easter wasn't the best time to visit as Good Friday all he bars and pubs are closed and some shops and Easter Sunday all the shops were closed. Our visit was for the rugby Munster v Ulster and that didn't disappoint.
King John Castle is well worth a visit. Thomond Park for Munster rugby, Markets field for Limerick FC football & the Gaelic Grounds for Limerick GAA Hurling & Football
We were there for Ulster v Munster Pro 12 game.Great time bar the result. Got a taxi into town from hotel.Taxi driver took us to a steakhouse in town.Had a great meal and too much red wine. Then went to Ted's Bar - very good.My friends stayed much longer and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.Eay access to taxi gettnig back to hotel
Limerick is a city on the up! It is definitely a cool and happening place with modern hotels, restaurants and great shopping. The city centre is undergoing constant renewal yet it retains some great old buildings, unspoilt pubs and very good food. It is a city of sport with GAA, soccer and of course rugby to the fore. It has had a tarnished reputation but it has wiped that away as it is now a centre of art, culture and a growing business hub. Lots of choice, from the ancient history around King John's Castle to the new Battlements of Thomond Park where the new Kings of Munster dwell. Limerick has lots of character, friendly fun-loving people, only happy to talk to you - they even give the Cork crowd a run for it. The city itself has a bohemian feel in the evenings that give Galway a great test. Keep doing what you're doing Limerick! Like it - a lot!
A lovely city full of historic buildings. Most things within walking distance from city centre . Many restaurants and pubs in the city centre, lovely riverside walks, a great place to go to when Munster are playing a match in Thomond Park with a great atmosphere around the city. Frequent buses out to the University of Limerick and to Shannon Airport. Train and Bus station within walking distance of city centre.
Lots to do during a stay in Limerick. We attended a Munster Rugby game and it was an amazing experience. Great to head on down to Kerry after a good nights sleep.
Sense of history throughout the city. You can book a Walking Tour through Limerick Civic Trust and they can arrange access to the North Munster Masonic Centre, which would have been very interesting, but it has to be arranged well in advance of your visit. Easy walk from shopping areas to Georgian District, People's Park, River Shannon, castle, cathedrals, art gallery and Hunt Museum. Enjoyed "fine dining" at No.1 Pery Square and at Freddy's Bistro (each booked in advance). Would recommend.
Travelled for the Munster game, but Limerick has much more to offer, excellent restaurants, genuine Irish pubs, plenty to see and do, St Jonn’s Castle, museums and the Milk market is well worth a visit
Accommodation, Food and Facilities second to none. Location was just perfect to explore this beautiful area of Munster. Staff were exceptional, especially Daniel the Manager. Well done Cahir House Hotel 5* is waiting!
