Really great place to be out of the madness. We stayed at the Royal River Kwai which was stunning. It was quiet, there was bird song. We took a river tour and went to an elephant sanctuary where we fed the elephants after helping them wash in the river and walking with them in the jungle. We didn't have enough time to do the train trip too and the main town area looked fun to check out - which we didn't have time to do either. We stayed 3 days here - I would recommend staying 5 or more - especially if you want to have days where you do nothing.

Great to visit such an important wartime location and experience just a tiny bit of what many prisoners of war had to endure. As with all sites like this, it’s not somewhere you go for fun, but it’s an important part of history and keeps the memory alive

Kanchanaburi was a fun place to stay for two nights.
Kanchanaburi was a fun place to stay for two nights. Erawan waterfall was definitely worth a visit. I was there in early March and other waterfalls in the area I was told might not be worth the trip due to having less water. Erawan has much less water this time of year than the rainy season, but it was still a very beautiful place to visit. I enjoyed the railroad museum and seeing the bridge over the river Kwai. There are good food and coffee options in Kanchanaburi and the train from Bangkok was a fun (but hot) experience.

Fantastic city to expand your knowledge of WWII. The Bridge.
Fantastic city to expand your knowledge of WWII. The Bridge. Thai-Burma Railway Museum (don't waste your time with any of the others). Commonwealth graves immaculately maintained. Hellfire Pass an hour away (watch The Railway Man before you go). Also great golf.

We loved a 2 days stay at ElephantsWorld!!!
We loved a 2 days stay at ElephantsWorld!!! That was the most incredible experinece so far in my life. The elephants are not chained, they walk around on their own, and after the afternoon visits leave the place you can stay alone with them.
We also loved Erawan Falls a lot! And of course you go to see the River Kwai Bridge. But we could have stayed for a week or more in the region - it is beautiful!

Apart from the attraction of the Commonwealth War Graves(...
Apart from the attraction of the Commonwealth War Graves(including many Dutch graves), the Bridge over the River Kwai and the War Museums, it is quite a large town, but without much to attract the average tourist. It is the gateway to the surrounding area with lovely countryside and other War memorials etc. But it really is not a holiday town.
I had such a wonderful stay here! Located 3 mins away from bus station, which is great. The host is so lovely, she gave me so many suggestions on what to visit in the city, thanks to her I could organise my days in Kanchanaburi. There is a common area where you can have breakfast/coffee in the morning for a reasonable price. You can also rent bicycles or motorbikes. The room is tiny but cozy, the mattress is very comfortable, not hard as most of mattresses in Thailand.
100% recommended!
Baan 2rai is a very nice and very well maintained accomodation on the outskirts of Kanchanaburi city centre. From there you must cross a bridge, follow a big road up a hill and then turn into a quiet street in a rural area. It´s a perfect location for leisure and visting several sights from there. However, you should have your own vehicle. Not only for the accomodation but especially for being able to visit a plethora of beautiful places in the Kanchanaburi area.
Really lovely staff who were incredibly helpful and nice, especially when it came to booking taxis and giving guidance about the local area. You will need to book taxis to get around but the hotel has an amazing view of the river and offers kayaking and help with transport and is in between Kanchanaburi and Erawan Falls so a good location. The breakfast and the staff working on the breakfast counter were both really nice!
Great boutique hotel. Location is optimal with a view of the river Kwai bridge, restaurant and pool right on the river, and easy access to sites. Bed was uber comfy. Room is big, good AC. Breakfast was outstanding, great Asian and Western options. Great value for money. Also well located next to the best restaurant in town. One of the best meals I've had in Thailand (and that's saying a lot!)
A very nice and cozy place in the beautiful city of Kanchanaburi, close to the bridge and with very helpful and friendly staff. Our Villa was nice and clean and the housekeepers did an excellent job. I was so unlucky to forget my wallet at the resort, but the honest staff kept it safe for me to come back and pick it up again. I will definately come back to this quiet and beautiful place.
The location is ideal for the bridge and tours to other places are easily arranged by the hotel. The swimming pools were lovely. The floating raft for sunset dinner cruise was great. The breakfast was fine, selection of local and western choices. The river view room did have a wonderful view and the rooms are a decent size.
An excellent hotel to stay and checkout Kanchanaburi. Great value, a tremendous view from our room on the 6th floor, and the location is central and in walking distance to bars and many restaurants. A great jacuzzi with a view. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Hard to beat, highly recommended.
Very clean. They have everything. Beautiful garden. Swimming pool. Nice rooms. Staffs are hardworking, friendly and they can speak English. Service is like a 5star hotel’s. You’re offered drinks as soon as you arrive. They have porter who’s always there to carry things for you.
The hotel is conveniently located between the train station and the bridge on the river Kwai. The proximity to the river is definitely a plus, as well as the restaurant where you can enjoy great views of the river Kwai. The two swimming pools for guests are very pleasant.
nothing, we arrived at the hotel at 7pm and were told they already booked our room out and had none left. This was after the booking was confirmed. Bad management and they even told booking.com we didn’t show!! poor service poor front desk buyer beware!!
- All staffs are very friendly and helpful, super excellent for staffs tilopic.
- location is also nice, good view, near the famous sightseeing.
- great facilities in the room
- big tree in the hotel and also has beautiful garden
- breakfast is good
This Hotel was far beyond my expectations. Clean, friendly staff, great location, excellent breakfast. Could not have asked for a better hotel.Highly recommend the Kanchanaburi City Hotel to anyone, including families.
The staff were super nice, accommodation was near bus terminal, which we appreciated on day trips out of Kanchanaburi, but little bit far from the centre of the city.
Breakfasts were delicious and various.
