It's weird /unique - eclectic random stuff from a bygone error looks like. We enjoyed it for one night - probably wouldn't stay longer. Staff very pleasant and helpful, stairs only up. Breakfast quite sad but they were made an effort - I give points for trying and they are an elderly couple. Great location and walking distance to walking street and clock tower.

The staff there was the most friendliest people we've encountered during our trips. Breakfast, coffee and water is included during your stay, and they are delicious! The staff makes them a la minute for you. We stayed two nights and got two different meals. On our last day we had a very early tour day and the staff lady rushed herself to make a breakfast box for us, which was so kind and lovely of her, because we didn't even knew we were going to get breakfast there so we were just planning to get some at 7-Eleven. Only for this I would already recommend this place! Don't come for luxury, but it's a nice budget-friendly place if you're seeking a place to stay for a couple nights.

After spending 17 days in Bangkok, Chiang Rai was a nice break for 3 days. Quiet, slower pace of life. Lovely night bazaar with lots of food options (love the hot pot) and live music. Wat Rong Khun white temple, Wat Rong Seur blue temple and Wat Huay Pla Kang big Buddha are worth seeing. Khun Korn NationalPark is worth the hike up to the waterfall - bamboo jungle and cold refreshing swim. We were here in mid-March so farmers are burning and very hazy up north so did not go to the golden triangle.

If Chiang Mai is the "jewel of the north" then Chiang Rai is the "Emerald of the True North".
Chiang Rai history dates back beyond Chiang Mai and was the original Lanna city state founded by King Mengrai in the mid 1200s AD. This king of times long past is still revered and remembered to this day by Lanna people.
Chiang Rai has history coming out of its cobblestones and weblike laneways. I won't try to list them here because they are easy to find in many other reviews and info sheets. What I can do here is just to raise interest in one of the most understated jewels of Thailand.
Chiang Rai is the central hub of Lanna culture today. And the Lanna language is still spoken commonly all around Chiang Rai province. In many homes it's the preferred language until kids start going to school and so can be heard all over the place. I've often heard conversations where people interchange Lanna with Thai ... very confusing. The temples and shrines of Chiang Rai province are just as spectacular and just as mystical as any elsewhere in Thailand. And the history of the Lanna people is integrally intertwined in all the older temples, chedis, stupas, salas and other public places.
Chiang Rai province is renowned for its coffee at Doi Chang and other places. It's also one of the major tea growing areas of Asia. Mountainous landscapes eclipse anything that can be seen further south and the weather is always a bit cooler and fresher air than further south also. A short drive north can take you up to the Myanmar border at Mai Sai and you can even go visit the Mekong River in all its glory.
If you plan to visit Northern Thailand and only go as far as Chiang Mai then you are missing out BIGTIME!!!
So I suggest you 'do yourself a favour' and make plans to explore Chiang Rai and all its provincial eye-catching destinations soon. Happy Travels.

Others can talk about the White Temple, Blue Temple etc etc I simply want to say that Chiang Rai offers a hugely different perspective to that of any other Thailand city ... and it's MORE than worth your while to visit. The surrounding mountains and various attractions there are multitudinous. The temples are just as impressive (for Buddhists and non-Buddhist alike) as in Chiang Mai and in fact Chiang Rai predates Chiang Mai as the famous King Mengai's capital city for his Lanna Kingdom.
The Lanna culture is unique in all of Southeast Asia and Chiang Rai is really still the epicentre of Lanna and all its aspects. If you are looking for a truly cultural and spectacular holiday experience then Chiang Rai is one place that YOU SHOULD NOT MISS.
So do yourself a favour and get yourself up to Chiang Rai ... in the Lanna lands of clouds and smiles!

Visited the Balloon Fiesta in Singha Park.
Visited the Balloon Fiesta in Singha Park. Plenty to see and do, we'll probably do it again next year.
I was lucky enough to visit the White Temple during Covid, and although it wasn't possible to go inside it was lovely to be able to see it without the crowds. Having just driven past this time I wasn't sure it would be worth the wait in the queue to go inside.

Chiang Rai is a nice place with friendly people, which can meet the needs/expectations of different people with varied tastes. It is not very touristy, so much more natural. Rent a car and it is easy to get about with Google Maps. Enjoy the natural environment, the food and fruits, and various attractions.
The room was cozy, but spacious and clean. All basic facilities, including a fridge (with free water) and kettle (with instant coffee and tea) were available. Breakfast was decent. In fact, their pork congee was excellent, while their coffee was heavenly. Housekeeping was also exceptional. The hosts knew English and were very helpful in recommending worthwhile sights around Chiang Rai. Moreover, the location of the guesthouse was ideal and conveniently near various amenities.
Our room was well appointed with a small balcony, overlooking the swimming pool. We have stayed at Lae Patta a couple of times in the past and knew it wouldn’t disappoint. The breakfast is partly self service with a host of western and more local dishes cooked to order. The coffee was good and the pastries delicious. We had an early start on our second morning so the hotel gave us a packed breakfast which was really welcomed.
The Courtyard Chiang Rai is a real gem. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the place was. It was a great design with about 10 rooms. Boutique hotel style... which we both loved. The breakfast was well presented and tasty. We stayed in the end room on the ground floor. Thought the separated shower room was brilliant!!! The room was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here.
location could not be better - close to the attractions on city center, walking distance to restaurants and the night market, etc
swimming pool is nice
breakfast, compared to other hotels in Thailand we've been, was good
rooms are comfy (we had some noise on the first night and they changed for us)

Hotel is great, loved our stay.
Rooms are modern, clean and well appointed.
Breakfast was perfect. As not many staying at our time.
We ordered by the set menu. Best hotel food i have had in Thailand. 5 Star.
Plenty of parking.
This little boutique hotel is probably the best in the city. Good service, comfortable bed and a really nice bathroom. The pool area was nice to hangout at and also the breakfast area was nice as it was facing the pool. The breakfast was good too.
Very nice hotel. Big comfortable room with a fridge and nice window overlooking the stream at the back. New bottles of water left outside the room everyday. Great value. Quiet and great for a good night's sleep
The location is great - right in the town with everything in walking distance.
The owner/manager is super friendly and helpful.
There are parking spaces right outside the door.
The hotel decor is unique!
Hop Inn Hotel is located is close to Chiang Rai Bus Terminal and night bazaar. The bed is super comfortable and the bathroom is big and clean! The hotel staff is friendly too.
the kitchen and the toast and eggs were an added bonus. it was a very quaintly decorated hotel. it was located in a quiet area but very close to downtown
A luxury hotel with all the facilities, with car or motorbike you can go anywhere, walking maximum you can go until the mall and some bars around the hotel
Kind staff, clean room, great value, near to many restaurants and not far from the center of town. Could rent scooter direct from hotel. Would recommend!
