There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely.
There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely. It is worthy of a 1/2 day trip to grab a taste of the various sardines and local seafood at the market; book your ticket early to see Livraria Lello; cruise the riverwalk area and take a short port tour if that is your interest.
It is easy to walk around Porto and driving was not an issue. The market has an abundance of local delicacies to try-sardines in a variety of flavors for 1E or purchase fresh seafood, mushrooms and herbs to go with the made on sight pasta to cook later. The Livraria Lello bookstore was the most uniquely wonderful bookstore to browse. They have created small easily portable books of the classics in a variety of languages for a truly special souvenir for the book and Harry Potter enthusiast. On way to the river, stop by the train station to absorb the history glazed into the azulejo tiles--fascinating artwork. At the end of the day, a casual walk along the river and a snack while enjoying the view is perfect. OR---take the last port tour of the day at Burmester, walk over the bridge and then relax along the river with a snack to soak up the port.

This was my second trip and loved it more.
This was my second trip and loved it more. So easy to get around and it has a more relaxed vibe than lisbon. We did the boat trip up the Douro to Regua and the following day we just walked and had lunch at Fladgate Taylor's Port House. What an experience. Using public transport with buses and metro is so easy and felt safe.

It was in a good location on a popular street (the Magestic Cafe, the tiled church, etc) with lots of shops down the street below and a few good restaurants nearby. Also easy to get to the Sao Bento train station where you can exchange foreign currency and opposite where all the tours left from. I liked the size - not too big and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast bar was well stocked and the pastries yummy. One night there was a disturbance with a family that stayed there - they were very noisy and disturbed me but only the one night.

Porto was a great place to visit and we enjoyed every minute of our stay!
Getting around by cab was a nightmare but as an 85 year old, I was not inclined to walk too much so all was well.
We ate in many different places and all were good including the hotel dining room and the bar!

First night stayed in a hotel 5 minutes toestiva Quay, riverside restaurants and main town. Dinner at a restaurant behind front line at half the price. Second night (after Douro cruise and stay in Régua and return by train) stayed in a hotel near Compahna station half the price with easy access by train to Porto centre. Preference dependent on your itinerary. Would do it all again.

Viewed all the recommended sites in two days.
Viewed all the recommended sites in two days. Food and drink was good value. Filled the remaining days with Duró Valley Wine trip, Matosinhos and Guimaraes trips.
Local buses and metro were excellent, connecting wherever you stay to the centre or airport.
Next time we won’t stay in the centre because of better value outside and travel in as we need!
Location is priceless . terrace on the6 this amazing to dort out imressions of the day and enjoy a bit nice viee before going to bed.
staff is small in number but pure gold. Receptionest Virginia lands a book about Portugal and helps with plans for the day. The waiter Tiego at the Top Roof Terrace Bar is the friendliest andkibfest of people and also versed on turist dilemmas.
Breakfast is excellent!
The team is so good that one foes not mind the concept of a small hotel.
i will recommend to all friends and will return.
Great location and space. Comfortable, modern, and well decorated. Next to the park. Amazing little balcony, and great living room. 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one in-suite). Great interaction with host. Walkable to downtown and a lot of locations, and everything is a cheap Uber away. Portugal is an Uber paradise. Ubers are very cheap and immediately available. The apartment is a 6-euro Uber ride from/to the Porto Campanha train station. The Lello bookstore is a 4-minute walk from the apartment.
We had a room with a small terrace which was lovely after a busy day sightseeing. The beds were very comfortable and had adequate pillows. The breakfast was just fabulous - the best we had in Portugal. Staff very exceedingly helpful with information and assistance. We arrived in the afternoon but didn't want to drive rental car in Porto. Parking was available & staff offered to drive us downtown that afternoon so we could get a jump on sightseeing.
What a place to stay in!
It's probably the best hotel I have stayed in Portugal, if we take into account the cost-benefit ratio.
Every aspect in this hotel was excellent: the employees service and courtesy, the state of the art rooms, the wifi reception (the best I have experienced for years), the rich and varied breakfast, and its main location in the city.
I will certainly recommend this lovely hotel for all of my acquaintances. 10/10
Staff there is really lovely. Vanya was always there to help, and nuno to greet us and available online. They don’t have possibility to serve hot food but they do their best with breakfast although as a pastry lover I could have more options with its since Portugal has so many tasty pastries! Location is super great not to far not in central so perfect.
The location was outstanding. It was clean, well-stocked, the breakfast was delicious and the layout was clean, modern and spacious. Very happy - especially for the price. Staff were incredibly nice and responsive to messages. The dinner at the affiliated 1858 restaurant was our best in Porto and possibly all of portugal - definitely go!
Was so lovely to get a personal welcome - with some port (!) - and advice on things to do. All the restaurant, bar and winery recommendations were amazing! The place itself is gorgeous and the location is perfect. The best coffee in Portugal is just two minutes walk away too! We loved Porto and Trait House and can’t wait to stay again!
The breakfast was quite good but not exeptional. Almost no hotel in Portugal offers natural orange juice although oranges grow everywhere. Hotel Vila Galé is no exception...The beds were very comfortable and the room clean. The Spa area was well maintained and offers a fantastic view from the top of the 19 stories building.
Best location, nice staffs, neat room condition, good breakfast
Everything was satisfying 😊 we came to portugal for our honeymoon, and porto was the first city we met in Portugal.
Its such a lovely city and thw teatro hotel was super good. If someone I know has plan to travel Porto, I will definetly recommend here
We had upgraded rooms. Very comfortable, newly equipped. Very comfortable beds and quality facilities in the room. Very good sound insulation. The balcony door opens wide, making it very cozy. Wonderful breakfast (best of all the hotels visited in Portugal during our trip), very friendly and helpful staff.
Our favorite apartment in Portugal! such a clean, modern facility that is walking distance to all the sights and yet quiet at night. Responsive staff, great amenities including fully equipped kitchen, and most of all, an amazing breakfast basket delivered daily!
It's a very social hostel you'll get to meet a lot of people in the common area, they also provide dinner at a cheap cost with sangria! Location is great, super close to a lot of sightseeing spots. There's an elevator which is quite rare in Portugal I guess
Great hotel in Porto, so quirky with all of the bumper cars and memorabilia all around the hotel. The reception staff were super friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was really good but the beds weren't the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal.
Good location, friendly staff. Buffet breakfast (including made-to-order eggs if desired) was excellent. Best shower we had in the five hotels we stayed at in Portugal.
