My room had been recently refurbished. I was extremely happy with it for the class of hotel and price and with a good breakfast included. It was handy for the beach, Shanklin Old Town , good restaurants and buses. The staff were exceptional, not only friendly but helpful above and beyond expected, managing and helping me resolve problems not of their making. The breakfast room, comfortable seating area and entertainment area and bar were good. There is also free wifi

The Chine is worth a visit!
The Chine is worth a visit! The ticket gives unlimited access for seven days. We took advantage of this and visited on three occasisons from top to bottom, and then in reverse! We were there mid may, and the Chine closed at 9pm, so it was too light for the illuminations to be seen at their best. But it was still a pleasant walk. Public transport is excellent from Shanklin and all the drivers we encountered were very friendly and helpful! We only had time for a brief exploration of the coastal paths, but the views are stunning!

It depends on what you like.
It depends on what you like. For me it is a typical Victorian seaside town, and the types of facilities on the seafront reflect this. Certainly it has much of what a family is looking for regarding entertainment, although some of the hotels did appear a bit run down. From a walking viewpoint it is lovely, although less mobile visitors may find some of the inclines a bit challenging!

A very busy tourist destination in the summer months and quite busy throughout the year, popular sandy beach, oldy-worldy town centre with various shops to browse & purchase trinkets, get a take away or food shop. Other tourist attractions, towns & places of interest on the island are within easy reach by car or by bus; the No. 2 and No.3 buses serve Shanklin via both Newport & Ventnor (no.3) and Sandown & Ryde (No.2); from Newport or Ryde you can get to most other places on the island.
Ships regularly sail from mainland UK:-
Lymington to Freshwater (car & passenger ferry)
Southampton to East Cowes (car & passenger ferry)
Southampton to West Cowes (Red-Jet passenger catamaran)
Portsmouth to Ryde (car & passenger ferry & passenger hovercraft)
Portsmouth to Fishbourne (car & passenger ferry)

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat.
A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat. There is a good clean beach and amusements for children. Lift up and down to the promenade during the day . The old part of the town was worth a visit. Good place to eat with home cooked food and owned by the same family for over 30 years was The village Inn. Town centre a bit run down and typical of seaside town. Lots of pensioners on coach party holidays. Thorougly enjoyed Osborne House , weather permitting you could spend the day there. Due to the cost of the car ferry we will probably not visit the Isle again.

Shanklin has something for everyone.
Shanklin has something for everyone. Plenty of places to sit along the front, including some under shelter. A wonderful Crazy Golf. An area for little ones to play. A good choice of eateries.
Shanklin Chine is beautiful and worth a visit.
1. My room was clean with an ample supply of towels.
2. Due to Covid-19 restrictions no cleaning staff entered my room so I had complete privacy.
3. There was a moderate supply of toiletries save for the complete lack of conditioner.
4. My usual breakfast waiter was very affable and added a nice touch to my soft-boiled eggs and soldiers.
5. A swimming pool was available (but it was too cold to use).
6. Getting into Shanklin Old Village took 8 minutes on foot.
7. The No.3 bus ran very regularly.
8. I didn't get Covid-19 on my holiday!!
An extremely comfortable bed and breakfast house set in an amazing garden with lots of seating areas to enjoy the flowers and the sun. Several small lounges in addition to the breakfast room. Comfortable, clean bedrooms, Excellent choice of breakfast items which were cooked to order. Friendly and efficient hosts and staff. Located in Shanklin Old Village so very easy to access the beach and coastal path, pubs, cafes, shops and the regular bus services.
Lovely hotel on the cliff top with uninterrupted views over the sea.
Ample parking, delightful reception staff, clean, warm and tidy bedroom with ensuite bath room with shower over bath.
Delicious and plentiful breakfast with ample choice to suit all tastes.
Easy walk into the old village in less than 10 minutes.
We did not stay as long as intended but will definitely return for another stay and would recommend to friends and family.
Beautiful property, exceptionally clean and comfortable rooms, a very friendly (family run) hotel - I visit the Island every couple of months and this is a 'real find'.
Nice quiet location (a short walk from the Old Village), ample parking and even 2 bus stops (one towards Shanklin/Ryde and the other towards Godshill/Newport) right outside the hotel, if you fancy a day out without the car.
The food was excellent and locally sourced, hosts very welcoming and exactly what we would expect from such a highly rated hotel/BnB. Rosemary and David were fantastic throughout, the little touches are what makes places like these absolutely perfect for a few nights getaway (the Easter egg by the door when we got back to the room was lovely!)
This isn’t what you would call a ‘modern’ hotel but everything was perfect for our weekend stay. We even arrived later than the advised check-in time and there was a member of staff on reception waiting for us to give us our keys. Stunning views and breakfast with added bonus of a small swimming pool which was very nice.
Excellent location, in a very pleasant neighbourhood and only a few minutes walk from both Shanklin town centre/Old Village and the beach. Excellent cooked breakfast with plenty of choice. Lovely garden and grounds outside with tables to take a drink outside to in the evenings.
The hotel was in an excellent location for visiting the Shanklin beach and Old Village. Compared to other accommodation options in the area, the Melbourne Ardenlea was more affordable and it was nice to have a breakfast included in the price.
Great location on bus route , easy walk into the Old Village or downhill to the beachfront , or short walk to cliff lift. Outdoor pool , heated but cool, room good , clean , quiet fir a hotel. Owner and staff excellent and welcoming
Friendly hotel and Silviu was greatly helpful with our need. Checkin & checkout process was seamless. Lots of eateries, attractions, beach in walkable distance is a great advantage. Everything was clean & spot on.
I like level of clean room and shower. Very like quality of bed and linen, nice white towels. Thank you for this it is really important for me.
Location was amazing, quiet neighborhood, close to Shanklin beach.
The host was friendly and we were welcomed with a lovely cream tea which was a nice touch. Nice view of the sea from the hotel outside dining area. Enough parking for about 10 cars. Enjoyed the breakfast.
The Highlands apartments are in an excellent location for exploring Shanklin old village, and the Big Mead bus stop close by provides an option to explore the island further if you don't want to drive.
The location was very good, all local attractions were within easy reach. The hotel has lovely common areas and the terrace. Breakfast service was good and hosts were welcoming.
Excellent room, clean, comfortable& quiet. Wonderful sea view. The hotel is in an excellent location, and with a bit more TLC and expenditure could be a really nice hotel.
