Going there at the end of September allowed to enjoy great weather and an opportunity to see whales during the start of the whale season. The city was not very busy during the week, but weekend it gets busier than usual. We had the Grotto beach all to ourselves from the morning, midday the sun is very hot during Spring or summer, thus a good time to head for some lunch at nearby resturants to enjoy ocean meals or popular flame grilled meat. The neighbourhood is calm and suitable to walk around in Hermanus centre.Guest review byThapeloSouth Africa - 10.0
The penguin rehabilitation centre was excellent.
The penguin rehabilitation centre was excellent. The harbour is not tourist friendly. If you come to Gansbaai you would love to eat take away fish, But Saturday ,late afternoon no fish and chips were openGuest review byBoshoff - 10.0
Easy to access any beach.
Easy to access any beach. We enjoyed Buitesteen Restaurant and Marietjies Pub in Baardskeerdersbos. It is a must for every visitor. We enjoyed walking from Franskraal to Uilenkraalmond. It feels very safe to be in De Kelders.Guest review byTILANA RETIEFSouth Africa - 10.0
Hermanus has a place in my part....always has.
Hermanus has a place in my part....always has. It's beautiful and serene and food for the soul. The whales are of course, the main attraction. But Hermanus is like a real breathe of fresh air.Guest review byOmar - 10.0

Fantastic view, comfortable & clean.
Fantastic view, comfortable & clean. Friendly and helpful hosts, Lesley & Tim. Great to walk on walkway along coast and other paths down to the rocks. Had some good meals at JT's kitchen in Gans bay and The Great white House in Klein bay. Able to chill and relax.Guest review byCharmaineSouth Africa - 10.0
A beautiful town on the coast 100km from Cape Town.
A beautiful town on the coast 100km from Cape Town. There are lots of activities to enjoy - whales, walks, wine tasting and excellent restaurants. A boat trip into Walker Bay is definitely worthwhile.Guest review byMarkSouth Africa - 10.0
Gansbaai was a comfortable city with spectacular views where...
Gansbaai was a comfortable city with spectacular views where our family explored the southern coast of South Africa. We discovered hidden beaches, spotted many beautiful Protea flowers, sunbathed on Pearly Beach, went to the fish market in the harbor at Gansbaai, lunched on butter chicken and fish and chips at the Blue Goose, restaurant on Hoop St, hiked Klipgat Caves at the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, glimpsed a pod of orcas, and a mother Southern Right whale and her calf, spotted three of the Marine Big 5, dined at the White House, saw Danger Point lighthouse along a four wheel drive track along the beach, found crazy amounts of beautiful shells on the beach. It was an epic adventure.Guest review byDacusUnited States - 8.0
A very quiet and safe residential neighbourhood, and a more...
A very quiet and safe residential neighbourhood, and a more desirable part of the larger busy area of Gansbaai. Very little in de Kelders itself in the way of eateries, bars, shops - the best restaurant being JT's Kitchen just round the corner. Supermarkets, petrol stations, fast food and restaurants etc are in the centre of Gansbaai -a short drive away. We specifically needed to be in de Kelders for personal family reasons, but probably wouldn't normally choose it as a base for a holiday. On the other hand, for peace and quiet it's the better place to be.Guest review byHasseUnited Kingdom
