Quiet little town with charm and a few shops close to train.
Quiet little town with charm and a few shops close to train. Can ride away is the beach and casino. There is a mansion there as well but we didn’t have time to visit. Overall nice location from SouthShore train. Bike rental would have been nice. We were close to Central Beach at a quiet MOTEL ( Al’s)Guest review bySusanaUnited States - 6.0

Grew up there so it's always a home coming but it's a quiet, pretty little town with enough litlle shops and beautiful parks to make it an interesting & appealing visit for a few days or a weekend.Guest review byVictor RioliUnited States - 8.0

Porter is a convenient place from which to explore the Indiana Dunes and although decent places to eat are limited it is very close to towns like Chesterton where there are better choices of restaurants. I think it is probably a bit less crowded and expensive than some of the other nearby towns.Guest review bySarahUnited States - 10.0
First time visitor and the family and I loved it.
First time visitor and the family and I loved it. The Zoo was awesome. Botanical gardens was great!! Close to the beach and if we didn't have the kids we would of hit up the casino. Outlet shops were better than expected also. Everything is close or like a 10/15 min drive.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

I enjoyed being right next to the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Indiana Dunes National Park. We also drove approximately 20 miles to attend the LaPorte County 4-H Fair, and it was easy access from the connecting highways in Chesterton. It is a very quaint little town, with wonderful dining and entertainment options. We ate at Lucrezia's in downtown Chesterton, and I would absolutely give the establishment 5 stars! The food and service for superb, eating "al fresco" while enjoying time spent with friends was priceless. I would recommend to everyone!Guest review byGood842United States - 6.0

A rather boring place that is trying to make profit after being so close to the lake.. especially national dunes park. Its a bit of a ride really, but it give both benefits of a small town, nice places to eat, various hotels / motels and prices and the rates have gotten a little higher then they used to be.. i think a bit too high.Guest review byJamesUnited States - 10.0
Sophia's Pancake House is an awesome place for breakfast!!!
Sophia's Pancake House is an awesome place for breakfast!!! Antique Market across from the Quality Inn had a great variety of things to look at and buy, something for everyone. Kohl's has clothes for all seasons, if you happen to forget a hoodie or a flannel shirt to cover up on a cool summers night(because Walmart doesn't carry things like that) Has Blue Chip Casino (but there is smoking allowed in the casino) Four Winds Casino is just 10 miles away and it's non-smoking.Guest review byIngriedUnited States - 8.0
All area hotels are very close to the Dunes National Park.
All area hotels are very close to the Dunes National Park. Each hotel is supported very well by private businesses providing quality meal selection and even grocery shopping. The people who are employed in this town's tourist industry are really customer focused. They understand the inherent values of satisfying, if not exceeding, customer expectations.Guest review byPhilipUnited States - 10.0

INdiana Dunes National Park is an absolute TREASURE! Came up for the Maple Sugaring at Chellburg Farm with Ranger Bill Smith and Co. My dog, Bodhi and I had a great time exploring the woodlands and the beaches in Spring sunshine!Guest review byCharlotteUnited States
