Great hotel located in the center of Funchal. The staff was friendly and super helpful, they gave us great recommendations and helped us with parking since the parking hotel was full at the time of our arrival. The rooftop is the best place to sip on a drink while enjoying the pool, or the gorgeous view of the city and the ocean.

Amazing hotel near Santana. The view from our room overlooking the ocean was breathtaking! Beautiful rooms, friendly staff, amazing breakfast. I would definitely book this hotel again! The pools and jacuzzi with views of the mountains and oceans were the icing on the cake. The restaurant is also worth a try.

The design of the hotel is fantastic! The rooms are beautiful and clean, thanks to housekeeping twice a day! Thanks for the little attention on our pillows ;) Charles and his bold collegue (don’t know his name, sorry) at the reception are doing an amazing job. And last but not least Jorge, responsable for breakfast, runs from left to right to make sure everybody is happy and presentation of the food is up to standard. He was very helpfull to us and our baby! Congrats to the entire The Vine staff.

Situated just next to the beach, the property is walking distance to other amenities in the area. The room is comfortable and well furnished with services such as kettle, coffee etc. The hotel as an excellent gym with all the equipment and weights that one would expect only in an urban business hotel. Porto Mare Hotel has beautiful grounds always clean and well maintained. We stayed in a suite with my 15month year old and we had everything we needed - small kitchen, high chair and cot.There is plenty to do at the resort so you don’t need to leave if you don’t want, equally the town centre is a short drive away. The service from all staff was exceptional. They went above and beyond. Examples - seeing our baby screaming and tired after a long flight they rushed the check in process and allowed us to return to finalise it. A complementary bottle of wine was left for my mum as they noticed it was her birthday on her passport. These small touches it made it perfect!

Every element of the hotel was top class, the variety of food in the restaurant, which changed daily, meant we were never disappointed. All the staff were super helpful, attentive and friendly. There was a shuttle bus n and out of Funchal, and we never failed to get the time we wanted, however as it was April, I’m not sure that would be the case in the height of summer. There is so much to see and do in Madeira, very impressed on our first visit to this Island, it won’t be our last!

The Island of Eternal Spring

With lush landscapes, brightly coloured flowers and a mild, year-round climate, it’s easy to see why Madeira is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. Its interior is mountainous, so most resorts are coastal, many at the foot of steep cliffs.

One such resort is Paul do Mar, a fishing village known for whale watching and surfing, as is Jardim do Mar, on a plateau just east. Nearby Calheta has 2 white sand beaches protected by breakwaters.

The main resort is the capital Funchal. Cascading down slopes, it has the lion’s share of 5-star hotels in Madeira on Booking.com. A cable car ascending into the hills offers fantastic views towards the harbour where cruise liners and ferries from neighbouring Porto Santo island are berthed.

East, Caniço’s sandy beach is nestled between rocky cliffs, while Santa Cruz is the nearest resort to Madeira Airport. Machico is the 2nd biggest city and has the best nightlife outside Funchal, but the best Madeira hotels for families are in quieter resorts such as Porto da Cruz in the north.

Santana is home to the triangular-shaped, thatched houses typical of the island, and twisting mountain roads lead to São Vicente, an attractive hill town with red-roofed houses. By the north-western tip is the village of Porto Moniz whose offshore rocks shelter natural rock pools.

    The hospitality is perfect. • When arrived, you will be seated and can enjoy a passion fruit welcome drink. • The room is spacious and clean, with artwork of C Ronaldo.Right outside the room, there is an outdoor gym on grass, overlooking Funchal. As well as the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. Be sure to arrive early to enjoy those facilities. • If you come back to the hotel late, the hotel restaurant is closed but there is also a seaside restaurant just beside the hotel that open until midnight. You can enjoy beer and meat for around 1x euros. • Breakfast at the hotel is excellent with many choices of hot and cold food. There is a chef for fresh omelette as well. Drinks included many juices and procecco, I made my own cocktail. • Luggage could be stored after check out. • Ask for a ticket if you do not have time to do the CR7 Museum Tour during your time, and do it after check out.

    Everything was fantastic. From the moment we arrived the reception was friendly and welcoming. The owner is always present to chat and ask about your wellbeing. We loved our room with a terrace.     First of all, the management pays attention to reviews and I found everyone very responsive and helpful! Xé was fantastic and team members were great! We found the food at the buffet fresh and varied, with lots of vegetables for those not wanting to eat much meat, though there were several meat and fish options. Fish was often very tasty, great desserts, nice breakfast options and this is why I feel the value for the money was very good, also because spa was included :-)

    The weather/climate was just perfect.

    The weather/climate was just perfect. We went in mid September but apparently it's like that all year round. We found the restaurant and shop staff very friendly and didn't mind that we were English and couldn't speak Portuguese. Really easy to get around by taxi - Bolt and Uber were half the price of the yellow taxis. Food and drink were reasonably priced.

    Machico resort is not for the night clubbing holiday maker, It was however for us a slow paced setting with a good selection of restaurants and supermarkets with walking routes for those who wish. The harbour offered boat trips, whale watching and surf lessons, the latter was enjoyed from the safety of a dry vantage point. Local bus into Funchal for 2-60 euro single was 50 mins away which opens up further opportunities for excursions and sight seeing like the red or yellow hop on hop off bus tours which operate from the promenade where the ticket is valid for 24 hours allowing to to spend time where the mood takes. Weather forecasting in resort will not take into account the drizzle from the mountains with can add a cooling break from the sunshine and occasional rain. Enjoy.

    We were only staying in Caniço, we went there to visit Madeira and really enjoyed it. It's green and beautiful, people are very nice and food is excellent. I would definitely recommend renting a car with a powerful engine as the island has lots of steep roads.

    We come here to enjoy the natural pools we were too tired upon arrival. But next morning was perfect, no crowds,peaceful. There are enough restaurants to choose from. Please be aware that some of them close their kitchens around 4pm

    Santana is a perfect location to explore the north coast.

    Santana is a perfect location to explore the north coast. Not far away from airport and capital, but still on the north. Two hiking starting points are nearby: Queimadas and Achada do Teixeira. Santana also has an only large supermarket on the whole north coast, so you can buy delicious food right there. No such option in Porto Moniz or Seixal.

    The island is beautiful. Soft sandy beaches. We hired e-bikes and it was very easy to get around. The people are friendly and welcoming. We took the ferry over from Madeira mainland. Smooth crossing and easy to get from port into centre of town.

    A pleasant town without excessive tourism with a beautiful beach and publicly accessible swimming pools. Excellent dining options, very close to the airport which did not disturb us with noise. Everything is clean, tidy and nice

    Calhetta itself is small and the main part of it centres...

    Calhetta itself is small and the main part of it centres around the harbour. As you might expect this means that all the major activities are boat-based such as whale and dolphin watching, sailing, fishing, excursions etc. but there are also lots of restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour where you can get a great meal - especially if you like fish - or just relax for the evening and watch the sunset.

    This location is simply out-of-this-world beautiful.

    This location is simply out-of-this-world beautiful. I did a lot of driving around Madeira, 700km in a week, so I saw a lot of places. Sao Vicente is lush, green, mountainous and breathtaking. I'm definitely glad we stayed here.

    Great local place.

    Great local place. I am very glad I have not spend the time in Funchal. From here I could explore the whole island and had my peace in the evening but with vibrant Sunday as all the locals come to town for their coffee and markets.
