FAQs about hotels in Azores
Portuguese Paradise Islands
The discovery of the Azores Islands is surrounded by many myths, but the official story places it in the year 1431 by Gonçalo Velho Cabral. Since then, they have been settled in different waves of migrations, creating a distinctive identity that mixes local and Portuguese continental traditions.
With their colourful houses, beautiful beaches, green hills and volcanoes, lakes, and rich traditions, the Azores Archipelago is a unique place to explore. Composed of 9 main islands and several smaller islets, their landscape and culture create magnificent settings and opportunities to enjoy.
The volcanic lakes on São Miguel Island offer beautiful beaches, earth ovens, and great panoramic views surrounded by green slopes. Being the biggest island, you will find a wide range of Azores hotels on São Miguel.
The Holy Spirit festivals mark the liveliest season and are celebrated on every island from May to September. Check out the availability of hotels for the Azores Islands on the Booking.com website during those dates.
On Pico Island, you can climb the 2,351 meters of Mount Pico, the highest point in Portugal. The picturesque city of Angra do Heroismo on Terceira Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

- From US$152 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 426 reviewsWe had a nice and comfortable room with a little basket of fruits for your welcome. The room had a nice balcony with a view to the harbour and Faial. In a minute you can reach the harbour and the city centre. There is a cleaning service everyday (if you need it). The breakfast buffet is really big and has a lot of offerings (they even had soy milk and milk without lactose; lots of bread, ham, cheese, cereals with different seeds, lots of fruits, many cakes, eggs, beans and so on...). The staff is very polite. We are not used to big hotels and normally stay at smaller/simpler places so we missed nothing at all.Guest review byAnna ElisabethAustria
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 150 reviewsExtremely welcoming, service-minded staff (owners managing there own place); nice room with own balcony and sea and mountain view; decent room size; fabulous breakfast; quality answers to every question, advice from the tourist's perspective, sometimes driven by the business interests of the other services the place offers, but never inappropriate or even intruding; located right in the middle of where the action in more and more buzzling Lajes is.Guest review byMarcoSwitzerland
- From US$167.20 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 825 reviewsBeautiful location, nestled I the valley of Faja Grande. Stunning views of Poso Ribiera do Ferreiro and walking distance to the hike. The cottages were quaint but well equipped and preserved the traditionality of the old village. Thev staff were super friendly, warm, welcoming and helpful. On-site restaurant had a good breakfast spread with made to order options availability and even vegan and vegetarian friendly.Guest review bySahanaIreland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 369 reviewsWe’d stay at several 5 star hotels before Mosteiros Place and this out outperformed those other hotels! Really high class. It had very much a ”home”-feeling since there are only 6 apartments with great spaces and the most amazing sunset from the apartment window! The staff were also so welcoming and friendly, and we got a little gift as we came for our honeymoon. Would love to come backGuest review byVictoriaSweden

I liked the area around the port, there is a wide choice of pleasant places to eat. I also liked the swimming area in the port, showers and changing rooms are paid but swimming is free. Parking can be complicated, our hotel advised us not to try to use the app to pay if you are in a hire car and this makes sense as we got a ticket and then there were three unpaid fines from the previous week added on. We visited the parking office with a copy of the rental agreement and got that sorted out. I highly recommend the gruta de carvao but it's very popular so book in advance and wear decent shoes as in places the floor is very uneven.Guest review byCarolFrance - 8.0
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina.
Hilly nice little town with historical center and marina. Not easy to drive through and park, but excellent for walking. Not many souvenir shops, and lots of cheap Chinese fake products but comparing to other towns in Azores this one is quite big. Bars, restaurants and bistros are there but these are not the best, they are sufficient though. The natural reserve on peninsula with citadel and military base is extraordinary. Great view and experience, nice for picnic or hiking!Guest review byJarek__PLPoland - 10.0

We went on a full day tour of Faial with Andre at Visitfaial. This let us see all the sites. Faial is a beautiful island and I wish we had more time there. Horta is more of a town than a city, size wise. It has a big marina and this was buzzing with lots to look at including some big yachts. There are some busy bars and restaurants which are fun to visit although we preferred the quieter ones in Porto Pim Bay Area. Genuino has lots of memorabilia from the owner’s sailing adventures. The tuna steaks were massive. We had a table upstairs at window with lovely views across the bay. Taberna de Pim was also good and we were able to eat outside on the bay.Guest review byPaulineUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I enjoyed Riberia Grande.
I enjoyed Riberia Grande. It is a great place to situate yourself if you are planning to visit different areas of the island. The public swimming pools and ocean access was fantastic. I enjoyed going to the courtyard area in my area nightly to eat and enjoy a glass of wine. Took a little getting used to the serving staff here as they did not seem interested in their customers. Upon searching Google, I found out this may be because they are paid a decent living wage and therefore not reliant on tips. This makes it even more confusing as to why they would not be receptive to their customers.Guest review byRosannaCanada - 10.0
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in.
Madalena is an awesome place to spend time in. You can book acitivities with agencies near the port. There are a couple of really good restaurants. Pico wine is amazing! During my stay in Pico (may) the weather was extremely changing and it was very hard to plan activities such a hiking Mt. Pico that depends on the weather. The temperature could feel like 30c while it was sunny and felt like 10c when cloudy and rainy. The same goes for the wind. Averall worth the experience tho. :)Guest review byMartinCanada - 10.0

Spectacular park and hot springs. The foliage in the park is magnificent rivalling some of the most iconic parks in the world. Quiet, close to quiet seaside town with whale watching, fishing and good food.Guest review byMikePortugal - 10.0
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying,...
A very comfortable and pleasant town for living and staying, with very nice people, and an overall good atmosphere. There is enough to see and to enjoy, from food, ice-creams, and cafes. It also has a lovely small market where you can eat as well, and opposite a garden with a nice sitting area. It has all possible shops, a large grocery, it's surrounded by hills, and much green. There are many very nice old houses, nicely renovated We are not young, so I can't say. There is a very nice and spacious beach with fine black sand The town is a little bit on a hill, but by walking down, you can enjoy a very nice view of the sea. This is also the heart of the town. Another good trip is a walk the monup the hill to ument. It can be walked from both sides, both offering very nice views all around. Moving around without a car is quite difficultGuest review byJIRINASlovakia - 10.0

It is a beautiful and historic building with so much character. It has calm and peaceful seating areas throughout where you can sit in comfort. They have the best breakfast and we relied on the banana for a snack as we were out and about during the day. This location is perfect for exploring the island as it is centrally located. We will definitely be backGuest review bySallyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

São Roque is very spread out, so a car is needed if you stay outside the heart of the village. Most restaurants were closed, so dining out was tricky (end of March). It is worth staying in a self catering place when going off season. The minimarket by the fire-station is well stocked. Safe swimming spot at the Naval Club. Close to hiking trails.Guest review byOdilePortugal - 10.0
A magical village with kind helpful people.
A magical village with kind helpful people. The village is like something out of a fairytale, perfect scenery, with beautiful well kept livestock, has such a nostalgic feel. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty, we also stayed in Sao Miguel (5 star hotel) but the food here was of a way better standard! Be carful when driving at night, ensure you have an offline map as signal is weak down some winding country lanes- we got quite lost and roads are very steep.Guest review byNailaUnited Kingdom
