The hotel is situated in a tiny picturesque village from the late 19th century by the Luster fjord, overlooking a fantastic view. It has Norway’s best breakfast with everything you may wish, and fantastic service. For extra luxury, enjoy a wonderful 4-course dinner prepared by some of our best chefs, followed by a drink and coffee in the garden. We stayed in one of the modern rooms, which has plenty of space and a nice porch on the lawn to enjoy the morning sun. Wow, what a characterful and historic place! We really enjoyed our stay. The views from our balcony (& big windows in the room) towards the fjord were lovely. Breakfast was very good. We can recommend the nearby cafe (also run by the hotel), where we had delicious afternoon tea/coffee and home-made cakes, and also an excellent evening meal of Thai curry! The hotel has only recently been taken over by a new owner and new staff & we wish them all the best. They were so friendly and gave us lots of helpful information about the area, and also about Norwegian life.

The room was right on the fjord. It was basic with no running water but cute, quiet, and clean. There are shared showers and toilets, much like a North American campground. There was a small kitchen in the cabin, and there is a communal one with more facilities- including a microwave, which seems rare in Norway campgrounds. There was an amazing sauna with glass walls and a view of the fjord. It looks like a mirrored box, but you can see our from the inaide. You need to book it, but it was a lot of fun getting hot and then jumping into the freezing cold fjord water. The pizza sold at the front desk/cafe was also very tasty. There is no real wifi to speak of, so it you want to be connected bring you own data.

The best possible view in Flam! The house has all the facilities for a comfy stay, we couldn't ask for more! Really appreciated having a smart tv and being able to watch movies from our phones/laptops. Well stocked kitchen, a very clean and modern bathroom. Liked tiny details like candles (+a lighter!) and the wooden blanket on the sofa. These things add coziness and make good memories.

Aurland is a quiet town with a well-stocked grocery and an excellent bakery. It is not a port of call for the huge Sognefjord cruise ships, so it is not overrun by tourists multiple times a day. By car, the town is 20 minutes from Flåm, 35 minutes from Lærdal via the Lærdalstunnelen (the world's longest road tunnel, at almost 25km), and 2.5 hours from Bergen. A refueling station is located just south of town, off the E-16 roundabout. It offers reasonable prices for electric vehicle charging and petrol/diesel fuel. And, it serves the best homemade soup in the area!

Everyone will tell you it’s a tiny tourist trap with nothing to do etc and yes, it’s the tourists’ first stop in the fjords and everything is overpriced. However, if you explore, you can find things to see and do from there. It’s peaceful and quite beautiful, so definitely go when there isn’t a cruise ship in the tiny port.

We had booked the Norway in a Nutshell route from Oslo to Bergen and our friends had recommended we break up the journey and stay the night in Gudvangen and I am so glad we did! It was the most beautiful town right in the heart of a fjord - the views were breathtaking and as not many people stayed the night like we did, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We didn't stay long enough to participate in any of the activities offered the next morning (kayaking, hiking or a visit to the viking museum) but I don't think you need to stay any longer than two nights. I highly recommend that you stay at least one night in Gudvangen if you are travelling through it

We drove along the bottom road and then hiked to the Feigefossen waterfall. We'll worth it, walking boots are required as rocky and uneven path. The supermarket is easily walked to, Mango IPA, a real treat for my partner, not had previously and apparently delicious 😋

Getting around Luster can be terrifying with one way streets and trucks. We enjoyed visiting the Stave Church nearby and Kafe Marifjora. Be aware there is a small grocery store and bakery in Luster. That's it. If you are up for it, the glamping set up looked far superior to the Inn. the setting is perfectly gorgeous. The host has elegant taste and puts that into the details. Otherwise, Luster is not close to anything.

Its a place which has lots of amazing things to do, every corner has a picture perfect view. In the beginning you might feel that 2-3 days are enough but I think you at least need 5 days. Good place to stay, we went to flam and Odda. Going and coming back from Odda was little bit hectic because it was raining heavily, the roads are very small, there are some places where there is only one lane, no two vehicles will fit. so be careful at such road. The nature is amazing, flam station has good food stall, I guess all major street foods.
