FAQs about hotels in South Tyrol
Tyrolese Magic among the Italian Alps
Part of the Alpine regions of northern Italy, this small province mixes great ski slopes, rich traditions from Austrian, Italian and Ladin cultures, stunning landscapes, and great food and wines. Seasons make no difference here, as the enchantment of South Tyrol has always something magic to offer.
With strong cultural and historical bonds with the Austrian Tyrol, this tiny region has a population with a German-speaking majority. The charming towns spread through its undulating geography mix the Tyrolese and Italian influence.
In the picturesque capital Bolzano, the Walther Square with the Cathedral of The Assumption of Our Lady and the trendy shops along Via dei Portici are a must to visit. Known also as Bozen, it is famous for the Christmas Market, where most of the hotels in South Tyrol get sold out quickly.
Merano is the 2nd city in the region and is famous for its spa facilities. And of course, also some the best luxury hotels in South Tyrol are located here. - From US$925.66 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 141 reviewsAfter six truly unforgettable days at the Adler Lodge Ritten, and I'm already dreaming of my return. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility and luxury that permeated every aspect of my stay. My room was an absolute haven, spacious and comfortable with breathtaking views overlooking the majestic Dolomites. The large bathroom, complete with a private sauna, was a welcome retreat after a day exploring the stunning surroundings. And the complimentary mini-bar was a delightful touch! Boredom was simply not an option at Adler Lodge. The daily activity program offered a fantastic array of complimentary options, from invigorating hikes and yoga sessions to thrilling mountain e-biking excursions. I even had the unique opportunity to trek with llamas and alpacas (for a small extra fee), an experience I'll cherish forever. The heated pool, with its panoramic views of the Dolomites, provided the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation. I also indulged in the spa treatments, and the massages were so exceptional that I booked two more during my stay. The culinary experience at Adler Lodge deserves special mention. From the bountiful breakfasts and satisfying lunches to the delightful aperitivo and exquisite fine dining dinners, every meal was a celebration of regional and seasonal cuisine. The pasta dishes were some of the best I've ever tasted, and the free-flowing Italian wine perfectly complemented each meal. But the true cherry on top was the exceptional staff. Every single member of the team went above and beyond to ensure that I felt welcomed, pampered, and completely taken care of. Their warmth and attentiveness truly elevated my experience from wonderful to extraordinary. If you're seeking an escape to a place of unparalleled beauty and tranquility, I wholeheartedly recommend the Adler Lodge Ritten. It's an experience that will stay with you long after you've departed.Guest review byJeanFrance
- From US$280.61 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,079 reviewsWe fell in love with Lago di Braies and with this incredible hotel- we already speak of returning. The hotel and its unique history is absolutely stunning, and we like that they preserved as much originality as possible. It is a charming, and magical place. The staff go out of their way for their guests- much appreciated. The standard of this hotel is very high. One of the best breakfast buffets of all our travels. We also chose to have dinner there for 3 nights in a row- the food is excellent. Our room faced the lake with a perfect view overlooking the mountains and beauty of it all. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony. We paid extra for our laundry to be done and were happy- everything in the hotel from the bedsheets to all linens etc were clean and crisp. Meticulously unkept property. Gorgeous patio to sit on overlooking the lake, with very nice designer outdoor furniture. We also enjoyed the hotels cozy bar in the evenings- the bartender makes excellent drinks and was so kind to our young child. It’s the best starting point for the main hikes in the area. 10/10 hotel.Guest review byCarolineCanada
- From US$238.52 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 482 reviewsOne of the best places I’ve ever stayed in with the most incredible views of the Dolomites on your doorstep. We stayed in their Yakima (tent option) which was very comfortable and spacious, with spacious storage units underneath (but be aware of ladder access only to use these). The facilities on site were incredible, super clean and lots of them so it wasn’t busy! Lovely sauna and spa included, and some of the best breakfast (included!) options. Options for dinner on site were so well made, and the on site shop and electric charging came in very useful. Would 10000% stay here again when we come next time.Guest review byNavkiranUnited Kingdom

The museums were well laid out and interesting, also reasonably priced. It was a lot busier than we were expecting & less friendly than other Italian cities. There were many shops, quite pricey, as well as a variety of street stalls, so a busy bustling City.Guest review bysusanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There is a lot to do in Merano, rain or shine. Of course, there are the local & famous walkways, the mountain hikes, bike trails, and the Dolomites are nearby. On rainy days, there are castles, the Terme spa/pools. Overall, it's a very nice town with a lot to do.Guest review byLisaUnited States - 10.0

Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.Guest review byCarmenUnited States - 10.0
For those who may not know, Val Gardena is comprised of...
For those who may not know, Val Gardena is comprised of three distinct areas; Selva, Ortisei and Santa Cristina. My advice on where to stay is to try and figure out which mountain ranges you plan on hitting. That said, all three locations are very close together, and you can access them all within ten minute on the same bus. Personally, I would stick to Selva or Ortisei simply because of their access to vastly different mountain areas. Santa Cristina is snuggled between the two and didn't have as much to offer, IMO.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Kronplatz is everyone's favorite skiing destination. Many slopes of varying difficulty. Something for everyone. All are very well groomed every single night. Castelrotto/Kasteruth is a delightful town set in beautiful surroundings and is we thought just the right size. Large enough to have two supermarkets , a number of choices for restaurants/Cafes , a Pharmacy , a number of clothes shopping opportunities but small enough that we never felt over crowded. It is delightful to see young children laughing their way off to school early morning. And there is a Gelato shop! There is a brand new lift that goes up to several delightful mountain walks at 1,500 metres , as I recall, and a restaurant and play area for children at the top.Guest review bySteveW57Australia
