FAQs about hotels in Amalfi Coast
A Feast For the Eyes
Comprised of brightly coloured villages cascading down sheer cliffs, the Amalfi Coast is on the opposite side of a peninsula from Sorrento. Between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed villages are lemon groves and winding roads hugging the coastline that are definitely not for the nervous driver!
In wonderful Positano, delicately positioned houses somehow manage to cling to the cliffs. The next village along is Praiano, on a flatter piece of land and with a 12th-century church. Furore in the hills above a fjord has its own winery.
Amalfi itself is picturesque, as it rises from the harbour to the top of its 13th-century cathedral. As the coast’s largest town, it has a good selection of bars, restaurants and accommodation. Adjoining it is Atrani, a fishing village with a dramatic, beachside road supported by arches.
High above is Ravello whose Villa Rufolo’s landscaped gardens offer magnificent panoramas of the coastline below. Due to its position, this town boasts the Amalfi Coast hotels with the best views and, of course, prices to match. Back at sea level Minori and Maiori have the longest beaches.
Due of all this splendor, you might struggle to find cheap Amalfi Coast hotels, but there is also a selection of affordable apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, and in any case the fantastic views makes the price well worth it.

- From US$4,433.61 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 127 reviewsEverything about Il San Pietro di Positano is exceptional – from the warm, personalised experience provided by the staff to the stunning amenities that make every moment unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and valued; the General Manager greeted us personally, we were offered complimentary drinks, and enjoyed a wonderful tour of the hotel. Our room was beautifully appointed, featuring an incredibly comfortable bed, breathtaking views from our balcony, and exquisite finishes throughout. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Breakfast at Il San Pietro was a dream. The buffet offered an impressive selection of fresh, high-quality options, with something for every taste. From pastries and fruit to local delicacies, everything was beautifully presented and delicious. We especially loved the personalised touch – anything we requested, from perfectly poached eggs to delicate crepes and excellent espressos, was made on the spot. It was the ideal way to start each day, with fresh, varied options and stunning views to match. A standout highlight of our stay was the complimentary boat ride to Amalfi, where we enjoyed a picturesque swim in crystal-clear waters. The hotel’s amenities are equally outstanding, from the scenic outdoor gym and tennis court with a view to the exclusive beach club nestled against the cliffs – each detail truly exceptional. Every aspect of our experience at Il San Pietro was curated to perfection, seamlessly blending luxury with genuine hospitality. From the world-class service to the awe-inspiring setting, this was, without a doubt, the best hotel experience of our lives. We left feeling rejuvenated, pampered, and already planning our return. Honestly, this is the kind of hotel that makes it hard to even want to explore anything outside of it. Il San Pietro is a true gem, and we can’t recommend it highly enough.Guest review byJessicaAustralia
- From US$387.01 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 493 reviewsI cannot stress enough how AMAZING this hotel was. I want to give a special thanks to Magda, she coordinated for us to help us solve an issue that came up with so much kindness, compassion, and helped me feel so much better and in good hands. I absolutely loved this place. The view from the room was an absolute dream, and the location was so incredible for us because we did not want to be in a loud area but wanted to be close to main Positano. It was a 20 min walk to the main beach, but this place was so amazing you almost didn’t even want to leave. The food at the restaurant was top-notch, and the wine selection, amazing. As another plus we are a gay couple and felt absolutely safe and at no point “othered” by staff, which does happen in other parts of Italy. Overall I cannot recommend this place enough. I just wished I stayed there longer.Guest review byAngelaUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 446 reviewsLocation is superb on the cliff side. It is midway between Amalfi and Positano. The layout of the hotel is completely different from a conventional hotel with rooms going down the cliff side with an endearingly rustic nature. Eventually, it reaches the beautiful sea and is ideal for swimming. The restaurant area is delightful inside and out and even in late October we were eating outside. The food offered at breakfast is extensive and delicious with an even more extensive in the evening. But what makes the hotel so welcoming is Luigi, Luigi and Luigi (owner, chef and waiter). What a team. Tip: Walk up the steps, 200 m from the hotel, up 2000 steps to the Path of the Gods, along the POTG down 1800 steps and catch bus back to hotel. Simply wonderful.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom

The location is breathtaking, with stunning views over the Amalfi Coast. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and well maintained. The staff were exceptionally kind, professional, and always ready to help – they made us feel really welcome. Special thanks to Alessia from Guest Experience, who made everything even more pleasant with her warm attitude. The breakfast was delicious, and the whole atmosphere of the hotel was relaxing and elegant. It was a perfect experience, and we would definitely love to come back. Great base for visiting other villages along the coast.
Great base for visiting other villages along the coast. Pretty town with plenty of small shops for gifts and ceramics. Wide range of restaurants, busy ones on the central square and secluded ones up steps and in alleys - all full of character. Limited suppplies for apartment cooking so we had to eat out for all meals but prices the same as UK. La Perla restaurant made excellent gluten free pizza! Very easy to eat gluten free as most menus clearly marked. Crowded during the day.Guest review byKimUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Positano was fantastic.
Positano was fantastic. We enjoyed great restaurants and shopping. The incredible views will stay in my mind for the rest of my life. We had easy access to boats heading to Capri, which is a “must add” trip you should fit in to your plans. The beach’s are loaded with stone and you must have water shoes to get into the water. We were always at ease with the relaxing vibe that surrounded us. My wife and I will strongly recommend Positano to anyone thinking of heading that way. It is truly magical. Our 2 best meals were at “The Mediterrano” and “ La Taglia, we enjoyed them both equally.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Maiori is an interesting town on the Amalfi Coast.
Maiori is an interesting town on the Amalfi Coast. The beach is big and much more accessible that other towns. The local bus service (Sita) is good except that the buses fill up and you can be left waiting for the next one and hopefully get on it. The Amalfi Coast road is amazing, winding, narrow and so busy with traffic nonstop passing with inches to spare - sometimes buses and cars have to back up to pass on some parts. The Italian bus drivers are extremely skilled - some are nice, but some are extremely mean (and I think hate Tourists)Guest review byMiddletonAustralia - 10.0
We loved where we stayed.
We loved where we stayed. Last year, we visited the Amalfi Coast which was beautiful. This year we went to Capri, which was amazing. The local shops were great and the people are very friendly and helpful. We ate locally or cooked and had a few favourite spots. It was easy to walk around where we stayed, for longer trips we had the rental car. We could ask our host for directions and tips on where to visit.Guest review byCarmelIreland - 2.0

I booked the Double Room with Sea View for good money but at no value. The room had a window with blinds that were broken and not possible to open, so instead of the sea view I've got the 4 walls closed space (perfect for Amalfi coast vacation!). Old smelly absolutely shaky furniture, cracks on the walls, dirty walls that haven't seen any paint since the building was finished I guess. Even the soap saucer in the bathroom was cracked. Announced breakfast is just stale croissants with jam and lowkey coffee. Worst experience ever, don't recommend anyone.Guest review byAlinaUkraine - 10.0

Furore is around 15km from amalfi, sounds close but in reality due to the winding roads it takes around 25 minutes in a car/bus Furore is quite spread out so you need to take that in to account when staying there. Car/moped is the best method of transport followed by the bus, walking is an option but be prepared for many steep hills. This is a perfect base to get into amalfi, but be aware that parking in amalfi itself is challenging and the police/car towing companies are red hot!Guest review byMARKUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Peaceful and quiet—perfect for a relaxing vacation. There are plenty of good restaurants and enough markets for everyday needs. The area also offers great historical sites to explore, along with the beautiful Valle delle Ferriere nature park nearby. A convenient bus stop with frequent service makes it easy to get around the area without a car.Guest review byNemanjaSerbia
