FAQs about hotels in Provence
The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis
With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.
Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.
But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.
For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.
From blue sea to rocky mountains, Provence has something for everyone’s taste. So does Booking.com: over 2000 properties in the region, from hotels with pools to cosy bed & breakfasts for your perfect Provence holiday.

- From US$629.05 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 97 reviewsAn exceptional hotel, situated in its own vineyard. The location is fabulous, the food as very good and the wine of course is from their own production. Our stay included a complementary wine tasting in the vineyard shop (across the road). The Manager went out of her way to ensure all food requests were met. The gardens are beautiful and well kept, and there is a swimming pool for guests. The water was a little warmer than my taste, but I am sure most guests will like it that way. We stayed for four nightsGuest review byJulianUnited Kingdom
- From US$640.81 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 321 reviewsOur room was very large, comfortable and tastefully decorated using high quality materials. Everything inside the buildings of the hotel complex emanated a rich yet discrete atmosphere of comfort. No bling-bling here! The sauna/pool area was very welcoming and spotlessly clean. Outside, there are many walks and cycle tracks to explore vineyards, forests and the open countryside. The personell were friendly and helpful.Guest review byJeffreyFrance

I really loved Marseille.
I really loved Marseille. I was travelling alone and had been warned that it was dangerous, but I moved around quite freely in well-frequented areas, at night, too, and never felt uneasy. There are, of course, people sleeping rough, but you get that in any big city. I only had a weekend, so didn't manage all the sights and museums but I can recommend the following: Go to the Vieux Port on a Saturday morning for the fish and flower market around and under the Ombrière, an amazing mirrored pavilion by Norman Foster. Catch the bus up to Notre Dame de la Garde for the church and a great view of the city. Don't try to walk up. It's further than it looks and very steep. Back at sea level, splurge 50 cents on the little ferry to cross the water to Le Panier. Wander around this ancient area, taking in the Vielle Charité - great free exhibition. Don't miss Rue Beauregard with its graffiti and pot plants. On another day walk along to Fort St Jean for more sea views and, an absolute must, the Cosquer cave experience, a completely un-kitschy replica of the palaeolithic underwater cave, now inaccessible, with many ancient drawings. You chug round in little self-driving cars with headphones providing an excellent guided tour in a selection of languages. It was a highlight. A weekend was a bit short. I would have liked to visit the islands off the coast. I think 4 days would be ideal.Guest review byLyndaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I visited Arles specifically to attend les Rencontres de la Photographie - a series of exhibitions scattered throughout the old sections of the town and it is a fabulous event, easy to walk between venues and to appreciate the whole tourist thing from the river to the park, the tower, the old factories, a number of the churches/monasteries/convents. Great local cafes and restaurants and you appreciate the ebb and flow of the city life.Guest review byAndrewAustralia - 4.0

We Didn’t like Toulon. Large, busy place. The main town wasn’t nice and not somewhere I would want to walk around. Beaches were very average - dusty shingle rather than sand. I wouldn’t return or recommend. We included the visit in a stopover.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 8.0

there are no 5star hotel groups there.. no Mario's or sheratons or Hiltons ? wonder why ?? the hotels are overpriced for the value we get. But the city is lovely and a very nice place to visit. Ie. the Breakfast place where we stay - the older generation with old mentality are Races and Rude, but the new younger generation are very nice and polite. I thin the older ones have their pains in the Ass..s to worryGuest review byRajuHong Kong - 10.0

Hyeres is beautiful like with a touch of Saint Tropez but way more peaceful. The people are nice and kind-very helpful. There are so many beach to chooce from. The transfortation is efficient enough. My favorite spot is the Port Saint Pierre- where you can dine by the port. I stayed in Ibis Budget hotel which is very close to the city center. Also the weather is nice.Guest review byMarvinPhilippines - 8.0

Enjoyed swimming, walking along the sea front and the ports and having coffee overlooking the sea front. Didn’t really see the uphill historic part, which I regret. The Tourist office at Saint Raphael was helpful as I needed a bus timetable. I’d say you need to be reasonably fit ( or have a car) to stay in the area I was in as in fact buses were few and far between so I did a lot of walking. I was on an Interrail pass so also enjoyed a little side trip out to Nice, which has good and frequent rail links with Saint Raphael.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I drove down from the Marne valley and this was as far as I wanted to drive in one day! Orange is a delightful little town with Roman theatre the main attraction, but I used it as a base to visit Mont Ventoux (Tom Simpson memorial), Avignon, Arles, Camargue and Pont du Gard - all easily reached by car. Quieter than the main Provence towns but with nice restaurants and cafes so was very happy with it as a base for 3 days. Favourite lunch spot was the Brasserie du Mule du Pape in Chateauneuf du Pape.Guest review byBodosUnited Kingdom
