I travel a lot through Europe and spend the night in the most diverse locations. For this trip I unexpectedly ended up in the B&B Hotel Massieux Genay! The hotel is located close to the A46 motorway between Villefranche-sur-Saône and Lyon and that means that I was only there to spend the night. Of course that is possible everywhere because you come across this hotel chain and many others in this segment everywhere. However (without having any shares in it:) I was charmed by the fresh and functional design of this hotel. It turns out that there are several concepts from which one can choose in advance. This hotel has recently opened and you notice that immediately upon arrival. The location is functional but if, like me, you only want a good parking space, a well-arranged room, a good bed and a functional bathroom, you are in the right place here. As an extra you get (during the times that the reception is open) a friendly multilingual welcome from the manager or his colleagues. There is a bar where you can quickly have a drink, a snack or order a nice cup of fresh coffee. However, if you have an eye for detail, you can also come across some beautiful and surprising designs in the rooms in terms of light fixtures and wall and window coverings. But also in the common areas it is modern and very neatly finished. From Yasin and Amir (I hope I spelled their names correctly) I understood that there are still enough ideas for the future.     When we came to apartment, maybe because it was the light festival, the staff surprised us with free hot red wine, and a free bottle of wine as well:)) excellent service! The layout of the apartment is also amazing the sofa bed is very very spacious and comfortable.

    Lyon is France's 2nd city with a strong identity.

    Lyon is France's 2nd city with a strong identity. It is full of museums ranging from the traditional art galleries and civic history showcases to unique must-sees like the Lumiere museum celebrating the career of the Lumiere brothers who invented motion pictures. There are many interesting neighborhoods, particularly Vieux Lyon, les Croix Rousse (with lots of frescoes) and the river banks. The metro system is wonderful, fast and frequent, enabling you to travel long distances in very short times. We particularly recommend City Passes, which include unlimited access to the metro, tram, and bus system, along with museums and the fantastic funicular up to the heights of Fourviere. Also, if you have time, take the new Navigone boat service (included in the pass) for a morning or afternoonscruise up the Saone and back, with each way lasting about 40 mins. Lyonnaises are proud of their food, with many unique dishes that deserve a try. You have to like meat, though; vegetarians might find their stay difficult.

    Lyon is a nice city with a town mentality (a good thing).

    Lyon is a nice city with a town mentality (a good thing). Green areas within walking distance. Pleasant parks and public gardens without crowds. Lots of drinking water fountains. MAC (museum of contemporary art) is really worth visiting. The city centre is a bit crowded but that's nothing compared to overwhelming Paris. Regarding the Villeurbanne itself, river banks are green, no beaches, waffle booths or "tourists" with portable speakers near the river. The streets are mostly empty, though singing and shouting students sometimes appear. A nice quiet district in my opinion. Unfortunately not many food options, you need to go to Lyon centre for something more fancy than student's dinner.

    Meyzieu is in a great location for Lyon.

    Meyzieu is in a great location for Lyon. Easy to go to town with the tram. Supermarket and bakery a short drive from the property. Location near the lake was great for an evening walk. Tiki au bord de l'eau great for food, service and location. Local sub hire was friendly and a nice thing to do.

    Nice clean and quiet area if the city with basic facilities (small shops, metor and bus stops). Atop a hill, some nice restaurants a bit of a walk away but beware the climb on the way back. nearest restauarant is a level(ish) 5 mi-10 mins walk.

    We picked this location because we had a ticket to our teams’ Euroleague game at LDLC Arena. It was walking distance. So it served the pupose. Otherwise itis far from city centre, there are not many restaurant choices. Not a touristic area. It takes some time but you can reach points of attraction easily by public transportation

    Great place for a long weekend. Food is amazing - but be warned Lyonnaise cooking is pretty rich so a few days of it will definitely impact you. Old town and city centre has great architecture and spaces

    The street this apartment is on is a dead-end, poorly-lit, private street that does not appear on some maps, so it can be very hard to find. The apartment building itself on the street was tricky to find because the street addresses were not consecutive. The door to the apartment was on the ground floor, but once inside the apartment, you had to go up a steep, rickety flight of stairs to get to the apartment itself, which was on the next floor. The apartment is described as a 2-bedroom, but it is not; it is rather a large space with two beds in different, open sections of the apartment, so no privacy at all. Very few electrical outlets and poor lighting. Not particularly clean. The wifi didn't work and when I texted the host about it, he was unhelpful/indifferent. After I left, the host tried to charge me 800 euro for supposedly damaging the television/monitor; when in fact I neither used nor touched the television/monitor the whole time I was there. Very unpleasant. All in all, not a great place to stay. Lyon is a big city so find another accommodation.

    The area of Venissieux feels more like the outskirts of Lyon...

    The area of Venissieux feels more like the outskirts of Lyon. My visit to the area was just because of hotel location and not necessarily a visit to explore the area. At first travellers may be taken back by the area as its not not very well maintained i.e. there are overgrowing grass and schrubs on street sides, but if your there just for a 1 night stay and want easy access to the town centre either by car or public transport then its fine as a location.
