- From US$144 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,475 reviewsWe decided to stay at Arenal Observatory Lodge by the photos, reviews and mainly by its location away from the roads and closer to the Arenal volcano and, after staying there, we now realized that we’ve made the perfect choice. Once you arrive there, you just notice that you’re surrounded by magnificent gardens and you have at your disposal several trails through those gardens and across the rain forest. The swimming pool and jacuzzi it’s a very pleasant addition to the property. The team was very professional and friendly; the restaurant was really good and the food was nice with plenty of options in the menu; all the space and surroundings is well kept and clean. We’ve made the guided night tour and we loved it. Besides that, we’ve made some of the trails and enjoyed it a lot. Our room was one of those facing the Arenal volcano with a wide window directly to a balcony from where we can enjoy the peaceful forest and the view of the volcano. The room was large and the bathroom had a lot of space. The rooms doesn’t have TV set and no AC is available, but they have a ceiling fan that is more than enough for you to get refreshed by its breeze. It was the perfect room. The breakfast had plenty of buffet options besides the menu choice and everything was really good. A can say, definitely, that, if I’ll travel again to the Arenal region, I’ll stay in the Arenal Observatory Lodge again!Guest review byAlberto MonteiroPortugal
- From US$324.31 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 564 reviewsWow... where to begin. My boyfriend and I went there to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary and The Royal Corin went above and beyond to make our experience incredible. I would put this resort in my top 3 best hotels for the staff and service alone. The staff had a "yes" attitude and made us feel very welcome and taken care of (they were honestly amazing from the doorman, reception, to the cleaners). The towel designs on the bed, the little notes, balloons, strawberries and chocolate, etc, were the little things that made me feel very special on my birthday! On an allergy note, the restaurants were willing to adapt the meals as I am gluten free. The breakfast buffet is not celiac safe but the chef will make you a separate breakfast (whatever you want). Shout out to Jonathan who was an amazing server at breakfast (he went out of his way to find me some GF cereal to eat so I wasn't left out). It's amazing that this resort doesn't have day pass guests and is also adult only. The main pool is a lovely hot temperature and the pool bar is super cool! They even let you order food from any restaurant, straight to the pool. The Junior Suite was spacious and had a nice view of the volcano.Guest review byOliviaAustralia
- From US$274 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 795 reviewsIt was the best hotel during my entire trip. Some improvements and comments (see below) did not affect the overall rating and I would gladly stay there again. I loved the nature around the hotel which is well taken care of, you can clearly see great work of gardener. Also, taking care of animals (e.g. feeding birds) is a nice practice. The views to the volcano are amazing. Hot springs were the highlights of my staying - clear and warm water surrounded by lush green nature and flowers. I do not know if the hotel was full or not but there were always plenty of sun beds and spots in the hot springs. People also seem to respect the place as there is no noise. The lady who worked at the bar was extremely nice and helpful and she made the best cocktails (not sure the name Maya, or Maria?). She also helped me to spot the sloth near by. You could clearly see she enjoyed her work. The room was very spacious and clean with all required amenities. Extra point for availability of repellent. The staff at the reception and restaurant was very friendly and helpful. As a customer you get a nice gift - a hotel bag. I can definitely recommend Hotel El Silencio del Campo.Guest review byHappyVoyageurSwitzerland
- From US$949.20 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 376 reviewsLoved the room, the bathroom, all the details. The view from the room was great, as well as the springs, both inside the Hotel and at Club Río. Personal was kind and welcoming, an extra star for Jorge and Diego at the restaurants! I would say it was also pretty good in terms of accessibility. I truly recommend the Spa, Gabriela will make sure you to have the best experience. Breakfast was good and varied, they offer GF options including pancakes and toasts. I also liked having lunch at Tres Cascadas.Guest review byLuanaCosta Rica
- From US$215.83 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 132 reviewsThe on-site hot springs are beautiful. The included 30 min spa treatments (one per stay pp) were a nice touch. The activity (one per stay pp) was brilliant. The bird life around the property and the trail walk is beautiful. We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.Guest review byTamiUnited States - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica.
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica. They have on main major highway and you must get off that highway to get to Jaco and Fortuna. The roads are windy and it takes forever to get somewhere. It took us 3.5 hours to get from Fortuna to San Jose and it is less than 100 miles. This is due to the windy roads which are typically one lane in each direction. However, it is a beautiful drive. Just be prepared! If you are in the Jaco area, do not miss Villa Caletas. Has an amazing view. We stayed at the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos in Garabito. It is a beautiful property.Guest review byDenaUnited States
