Kamloops isn't the regular stopping point for many.
Kamloops isn't the regular stopping point for many. We made use of the various walks, the Kenna Cartwright park had a fabulous ridge walk. We ate in the Noble Pig, walkable from the accommodation and well worth the visit. Kamloops lake is very popular if you have a boat or like fishing. It is a town of many sports, we even found a "horseshoe" court! Wild deer came into town to eat the overflowing vegetables at the community gardens. You can explore the Rockies, Monashees and Carboos all in the same day. Less than an hours drive southwest and you can take a river safari at Blue River. Another hour or so gets you to Clearwater, the gateway to Wells Gray Provincial Park. Drive a half hour south and hang out on the shore of Kinbasket Lake. Northeast and you can be in Mount Robson Provincial Park and Jackmans Flats within 25 minutes. We’ve seen them all and will be back for more. Too short. It was an overnight stay. Seems like a nice place. But the Ace Western Motel was not at all how it was posted on the site. Older photos on site. Our stay there was not pleasurable. The north end of Penticton, has wonderful walking paths along the lake and beautiful views up the lake. The paths have lots of benches along them for enjoying various views. The main downtown is easily walkable and there are some interesting shops on Main Street and Front Street. Petrasek Bakery has marvellous pastries and coffee. The downtown Home Hardware Store. This store is something from the long past, a half upper floor and a lower floor which has been in the hands of two families for well over 70 years. You need to spend a few hours just taking in what are REAL hardware store should offer--everything ever needed and more! It is unique and a solid family run store with very helpful employees, many likely over 65. Young or old, they have so much knowledge that you can easily spend 20 minutes just talking to them, the atmosphere is so relaxed. You can see, they love working there. I was there for work! I would highly recommend the Indian restaurant there! Mughal garden restaurant. I’ve been to a lot of Indian restaurants in Vancouver and this is right up there for quality.
