Giving this former local village leader's home a new lease of life, this renovation project took nearly three years to complete. Rebuilt from scratch, with an architect renowned for his unique award-winning projects, 976 Panangad has been created with locally-sourced material and Bawa-esque inspiration. Every little artifact tells a story here - from lamps by the pool inspired by mussel-catching baskets to outdoor overhead lights inspired by the local Chinese fishing nets next-door (our neighbour's main source of livelihood today remains fishing). Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, 976 Panangad is a symbol of inspiration drawn from hard work and ambition to strive for more. 976 Panangad (9.895529° N, 76.331790° E) is a quaint backwater four-bedroom villa, which is a mere half hour away from the heart of Ernakulam City & Fort Kochi. All bedrooms have a large floor-to-ceiling glass wall that offers panoramic views of the backwaters. Each room also has its own private bathroom and shower area. ​If the view outdoors isn't enough, two of the four rooms here at 976 come with attached plunge pools as well. With a common infinity pool that looks out over the backwaters ahead, 976 Panangad is now renowned as much for its experiences as its serenity and vistas. Experiences - Spend your day in the infinity pool or just watch the kites fly overhead as you pretend to finish your paperback. ​Better still, head out on kayaks for a firsthand experience of life by the backwaters. Should you choose, you could also visit the Chinese fishing nets next-door for your own 'catch of the day' fresh from their backwater nets. Don't miss local fisherfolk on their way to work on little 'vallams' or with pots on their heads as they wade in shallow water for mussels right in front of the lodge. A backwater shrimp farm on the banks opposite 976 Panangad attracts more feathered friends than you'd care to name. Make your way to Fort Kochi 15 kms away for historic perspective of Kerala with its wide array of cultural and eating out places.
