We spent three wonderful days in Hirosaki, a charming and authentic town that still feels untouched by mass tourism. It was refreshing to explore a place where the pace is slower and the culture feels so genuine. The absolute highlight of our stay was Guest House Chara, run by the kindest elderly couple, Fusao and Toshiko. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel completely at home—it wasn’t just a place to sleep, it truly felt like staying with family. Their house told a story, filled with warmth, history, and the little personal touches that made it feel lived-in and loved. From the amazing homemade breakfast to the delicious ramen dinners they prepared, every meal was made with care and love. The guest house is conveniently located, just a short walk from a supermarket and a laundromat, which made things really easy for us. This personal, welcoming experience truly made our trip special. Located in Towada, the recently renovated Oirase Guest house KEIGETSU provides accommodation 5.2 km from Tsuta Hot Spring and 32 km from Lake Towada. It is a family run amall inn. We had half board n the food for bothdiner n bf was so good n sumptuous. The charges were well worth and location was so convenient that is just at the beginning of oirase gorge.

The owners husband is a hobby hunter and serves food with of the animals he hunts and mushrooms he picks. we had a lovely bear shabu shabu. the second they he also went out of his way to show us the local bathhouse (onsen). we worked around the language barrier using Google and had a great time here.

Absolutely amazing place. Comfortable, very clean and new, nicely furnished, well equipped, cheap. It genuinely felt even better than staying in my own house, and I would have loved to stay many days more there. The host is also really nice and gave us good recommendations about sightseeing in the area.
