A very nice, authentic family pension close to all the important sights of Khiva, as it is located in the old town. The lady, the young boy, who could speak English, and the young woman who took care of our breakfast were very helpful and kind. Everything was very clean. The breakfast was varied.

One of my favourite hotels ever. Located in a 100-year-old madrasah (school) and super charming. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. Location is just outside the east gate so nice and quiet but near the old center. Staff members are all wonderful and welcoming. Will definitely stay here again.

Great location - near the train station so you don't need the taxi, it will take you about 20minutes to walk to old town and see the beautiful enviroment along this way. The super nice manager and all staffs, they alway smile with you, from coming to leaving out. They wellcome us with the free breakfast after long train to relax and wait for the ready room. They also suggest us to check out late without any extra fee when they know our train will leave at 5pm. Breakfast is delicious and many choices. This is the first time we have got the super good services with the minimum price like that during not only the trip at Uzbekistan but also in many other countries. Highly recommend and sure that we will be back here for the next trip to Khiva.

One of the best hotels We have stayed, super friendly peoply, service delivery was beyond excellent. Location of the hotel is right in the heart of the old town (Ichan Kala, Khiva). Hotel is brand new, everything is new. Mattress was exceptionally great. (I must mention it) Wifi was good. Helped with transportation and well organized trips to old fortresses. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay !

Beautiful family owned little hotel in Khiva, friendly and helpful owner. Place is stunning, beautiful carpets and wood details. Room is comfortable and with all the necessary amenities. Had to leave early so we got packed box breakfast, still tasty and various. Khiva is definitely the hidden gem of Uzbekistan, a must do stop along the Silk Road.

The Hotel is runned by a family. This means literally to feel at home. The guy at the reception speaks a perfect English and he's incredibly kind and helpful. His mother prepares the breakfast, served on the terrace where you can have an amazing view over the Khiva cityscape. All the goodies are homemade, the fruit is fresh and it's simply the best breakfast I had so far in Uzbekistan. Bathroom is perfect clean. Position is perfect, inside the citadel. PS: the dad plays traditional live music. Best place to stay in Khiva.

Very impressive city, but charges for access to old city monuments make it more expensive than Bukhara and Samarkand. And reports of less tourists in Khiva than Bukhara and Samarkand are false. Was roundly ripped off by the Choyxon Tea Shop in the old city - worst polav I have had in Uzbekistan and worst service.

Its a very picturesque city that has been maintained / rebuilt nicely. Atmosphere is nice, but due to the tourist focus our experience was that the restaurant prices can be slightly higher than in other parts of Uzbekistan that we visited. For people that know Dubrovnik, Khiva has a similar vibe with less tourists (at least outside the main tourist season)

Khiva is an amazing old city, with many historic monuments and a fascinating culture. The old town walls still stand, separating ancient Khiva from the more modern city around it. It is a wonderful place just to saunter around and soak up the atmosphere, but it is also possible to arrange excursions out to some old fortresses in the desert, which is well worth it. There are, of course, the inevitable tourist boutiques and kiosks, but the level of hassle is low and there are many locally produced crafts on sale.

We stayed in Khiva for two full days.

We stayed in Khiva for two full days. It was just enough time to visit all the sights and get a good overview of the city. The walled city is approx. 400x600 meters, so it's possible to manage everything in a short time. It was a bit of a labyrinth at times, since many buildings (apart from the landmarks) look very similar. During our stay it was 40 degrees, so we tried to get out early in the morning, take it easy during lunchtime, then go out in the evening again. The streets are quite lively in the evenings and there are many rooftop restaurants which are open until late. Double check that they have actual menus with prices (we went to a place where the waiter was showing us the pictures of the available dishes on his private mobile phone, with no prices). Khiva has more of an "outdoor museum" feel than Bukhara or Samarkand. Also, the markets are more expensive here. A tour guide later told us that you can go down by 50% when haggling.

It's worth adding Khiva to your Samarkand, Bukhara trip.

It's worth adding Khiva to your Samarkand, Bukhara trip. It's not only a large and lovely historic site, but the neighborhoods around the walled city are full of friendly people. As a photographer I like to go off the beaten path and meet the people. Uzbekis are friendly and welcoming and a pleasure to meet whether you speak their language or not.

I started my trip with Khiva as it, in many regards, represented the frontier for the historical empires of what is now Uzbekistan. One day with a guide and one day on my own to go back rebook everything gave me time to digest and fully appreciate Khiva's role in the history of Central Asia. Khiva is a walking " town" . If there is a down side, the end of April is still high season; that means a lot of tourists and a lot of heat.
