    Southport has lots of little shops and restaurants to visit.

    Southport has lots of little shops and restaurants to visit. We went to the Southport Market. I bought mostly food.....relishes, meats and yummy homemade butters. The waterfront view is beautiful. You could sit on the benches and relax. We also visited the Maritime museum. Free parking and just take your time visiting all the fun places!

    Lovely little town. Good shopping and restaurants. People were very friendly. Loved eating at Fishy Fishy on the water. Centrally located so you can travel to Oak Island and over to Bald Head Island. Bald Head Island is a treasure and wonderful place to visist.

    Southport was very beautiful to visit.

    Southport was very beautiful to visit. The downtown area has several shops and restaurants, and also a lot of restaurants by the water. You can walk along the water and watch boats. We also saw dolphins playing in the water. There are seats along the water, and swings which made it nice and peaceful. We enjoyed looking at some of the beautiful historical homes on our walk. The beach is about a 15 minute drive, so that is nice. We ate dinner at Fishy Fish and The Frying Pan, both were waterfront and great food. We also went to Blue Cow Grille downtown and it was excellent! Parking is free everywhere and there is a public restroom downtown, which I thought was very nice.

    The front office staff are unreliable and extremely rude.

    The front office staff are unreliable and extremely rude. I tried to have them mail my phone to me after realizing I left it next to the room keys when we left. I still haven't received to phone nor have I received a receipt for the mailing of it. This means that either they threw it away or someone else took it when they cleaned the room. Either way, it's not cool!

    Brunswick County and points south are over-developed.

    Brunswick County and points south are over-developed. Road construction makes for an unenjoyable trek wherever a person has to go. If you shop, view a point of interest, visit friends - make a day of it, or make it truly worth your while because to travel anywhere requires the patience of Job (Biblical reference), and a really long trip to get there; be sure you make no wrong turns because getting back on track will require an added 30 minutes because of traffic. Traffic is terrible: and those are just the residents. Wait until tourist season. Sorry Southport - I'm heading north. I visit only because of my in-laws' residence there.

    The lighthouses of Oak Island and Old Baldy were our...

    The lighthouses of Oak Island and Old Baldy were our favorite spots since my husband makes them. Went to a Mexican restaurant across from the hotel. It was very good. Also went to Chucks Homemade Ice cream. It was delicious! Really enjoyed meeting and talking to him! Getting into the hotel was a challenge since there was always so much traffic on that road.

    We loved everything about River Hotel! The pool was lovely with plenty of chairs. The beach was perfect…quiet and chairs available. Husband enjoyed fishing out on the pier and the huge patio had lots of tables and chairs… great for enjoying a meal outside! There is some covered parking but plenty outside too. The balcony was enjoyable to relax and had two comfortable chairs. It is close to town with plenty of shops and restaurants. Loved it!

    Stayed at Southport for the 4th July celebrations (we had discovered Southport after watching the Safe Haven film). Hotel pool was most welcome in the heat of the afternoon, before we headed back into town for the fireworks. Good breakfast.

    Looks like a fairly new hotel. Nice decor,clean rooms & public areas,friendly staff. Convenient location near a number of decent local restaurants, we ate in the Italian across the car park, which was very good.
