They say theres all these temples here but then when you check the history, all of them were built around 1920. So what? That's barely history. The town is basically an old British colonial mining town and before that there was nothing.

2D1N was far too short a trip for Ipoh but we managed to pack in good food experiences, an evening soaking in the hotsprings your body and mind will keep thanking you for later, and some shopping experiences. We did our homework researching on what to do, see and eat beforehand and ticked them off one by one during our short trip. Most recommended.

An excellent place for food and culture. Enjoyed the tour of the guide who explained the history of tin mining town of Ipoh and the Hakka culture (Han Chin Pet Soo Museum). The dimsum at Ming Court Restaurant was good but be prepared to wait. It is easy to walk around the Old Town and also Grab was available too

A great town - not spoiled by the high rise of KL or the extensive tourism (and increasing high rise) of Penang. A fantastic town to just wander around with the bonus of excellent food. Good night markets, interesting country side around (think HaLong Bay on land) and friendly people. Getting around is cheap and simple with Grab and after the traffic of KL is a pleasure.

I was expecting more from Ipoh, so slightly disappointed. The city centre is a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. Some traditional buildings are left, but overall, it is pretty challenging to navigate. All the pavements are broken or very high, making it very difficult to carry a child with a stroller.

Ipoh is a bit out of the way and the town is very quiet. Most places shut around 9pm. It’s not the prettiest town, but there are some beautiful temples to visit. We did our own tour by Grab and that was cheap and easy. We also went for a swim in a waterfall, which was a nice if exhausting way to spend the day. The high point for me was the Banjaran Hot Springs Resort. I did a day spa there and it’s the most beautiful spa I’ve ever been to with hot tubs fed by a natural hot spring, a steam room and a huge mediation space set in limestone caves. I had their signature massage and it was soooo good. It’s not cheap, but it’s so worth it. My teenage sons loved the wildlife park at the Lost World of Tambun, though the water park was a let down as most of it wasn’t working and the ‘theme park’ was more like a few fairground rides.
