I was in Champassak during the Wat Phou Festival which was great and interesting and then returned for one night after being in the 4000 Islands before heading north. The Temple are marvellous and would like to see it without all the tourists and festival goers but I enjoyed the festival particularly the opening and the Alms Ceremony for the monks.
We went down the Wat Oum Tomo by a small private boat - a 2 hour trip each way around the island, but it was well worth it.
Champassak is peaceful and encourages relaxation although I found bicycling in the rice paddies gave me insight into country life.
My most vivid memory is sitting by the Mekong and watching the most beautiful sunrises I have ever seen over a river that was as still as glass.

The roads in Champasak are very bad with massive pot holes, I recommend to hire a 4wd. Pakse has lots of markets to look at and there are some beautiful waterfall to look at just 1-2 hours drive. The Mekong river is amazing to look at also. I highly recommend going to the Vat Phou.

Wonderful accommodation on the Mekong with a helpful host and very friendly staff. Our room on the second floor was spacious and we appreciated the verandah overlooking the temple and surrounding area.
It is possible to rent bicycles and motorcycles at the accommodation.
The restaurant has good cuisine and a wide selection.
The location is perfect - you can walk to the small center of Chamasak and various restaurants.

Def one of my favorite hotels in Laos. The view is stunning, the employees are super helpful and so nice. They managed everything for us including a pickup to go the 4000 islands without having us go back to Pakse. The rooms were really clean, big and the beds were super comfy. The pool area and the garden were also amazing. Also, the restaurant was super nice.

Lovely big room overlooking the river. Two swimming pools, so lots of choice of where to sit. Pleasant landscaped grounds. Pretty close to Wat Phou (about 30 mins by tuktuk), easy to cycle into Champasak or take a tuktuk.
The food in the restaurant for lunch and dinner is good.
Lovely, helpful staff
