FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

What do you want me to say, it's the capital of Japan.

What do you want me to say, it's the capital of Japan. Food is always delicious and affordable, vast amount of stuff to do and the most respectful culture. Respect it and they will do the same, don't be rude.

We visited a mix of city and country areas which was nice. A stay in Osaka and Kyoto first, followed by a walk on the Nakasendo Way, train ride to the Snow Monkeys at Nagano and stayed at a lake near Mt Fuji before heading to Tokyo.

We chose outer Tokyo for our two stays at the start and end of our trip. It kept us away from crowds and into lively, friendly neighbourhoods. We probably travelled 30 minutes to get into central Tokyo each time, but we also chose to travel to sights in the outer Tokyo areas. We ate locally and were welcomed by locals. TIPS: 1. Couples, take both an Android and iPhone if possible. 2. Google Translate is essential for reading menus and ordering food. Worked well on both phones. 3. Google Maps on my husband's Android trumped Google Maps and Apple Maps on my iPhone. The maps on my iPhone were not updated. There was an entire freeway missing, as well as eateries, especially outside Tokyo. Google Maps (Android) for using the public transport network was very precise. 4. Mobal e-SIM worked perfectly on my iPhone. My husband tried both Ubigi and Mobal on his two-year-old Android, and they didn't work. He ended up having to buy an expensive e-SIM at Narita on arrival. 5. Cash in king. Have plenty of it on hand. 6. Download a Suica card into your iPhone's Apple Wallet and top it up along the way. My husband could not get this in his Android wallet, so he bought a physical "Welcome Suica" card at the airport train terminal on arrival. You will need a Suica card to use public transport.

A must visit, without a doubt, I will pick Japan, any day.

A must visit, without a doubt, I will pick Japan, any day. There is way more tourism compared with 10 years ago, but so worth it. I would love to come back in the fall to see the colours, the cherry blossom season would be a dream, though a bit concern about the crowds, still I think would be totally worth it. In summary, looking forward to come back 2 more times.

It's not a problem using English in most of the famous spots. Just that sometimes there are two many people. But generally it's still worth coming. Would be happy if I got some time next year to come again.

Great stay for a few days in Tokyo. The relaxed neighborhood in Asakusa was perfect for us. Asakusa Shrine, shopping streets, various food options and Sumida Park are all within walking distance. Public trasport is just a 5-min walk away providing easy access to the airport and all city spots like Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara.... The common area in the hotel was great with free tea and coffee, as well as pastries in the morning. Laundry facilities were avalabile. We would come back again!

My husband and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon. Location was excellent and very near to Nihonbashi metro station as well as Tokyo station, making it convenient to transport our luggages to take the Shinkansen and Narita express. There were a few convenience stores nearby thus is was easy buy foods/snacks for breakfast/supper. As a nice gesture, they even provided complimentary sparkling sake as we were on our honeymoon!

Great location in a very quiet area but so easy to get the metro to the main tourist areas shibuya shinjuku etc. A short walk from the imperial palace which was lovely Although the room was small it was fine for 2 people, great amenities in the room (coffee machine!) Would definitely stay again, great value for money considering some other Tokyo hotel prices!

We stayed here for the experience of staying in a capsule hotel. My 15 year old son was keen to stay in one. We enjoyed our stay and even my husband who is 198cm found the size of the capsule pretty good. It was very clean and we al felt very safe.

Every little thing was thoughtful and had very clear instructions.. water pressure is very strong!! better than some hotels.. 3 mins walk from higashi shinjuku oedo line gate and 1 min walk from the exit, it’s really strategic..
