Capital of the Italian Tyrol

Bolzano is one of those cases that are difficult to describe without risking undermining its beauty and complexity. A witness of the conflicts and renaissance of Europe, this Italian city is the capital of the German speaking province of South Tyrol. Located in the Adige River Valley, it is surrounded by hills crowned by castles, and framed by the Dolomites Alps.

After reaching the local railway station, follow the Bahnhofsallee or Viale della Stazione and you’ll reach Walther Square, where the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady is located. The shops along the arcaded street of Via dei Portici will lead you towards the market, located in Goethe Strasse.     The museums were well laid out and interesting, also reasonably priced. It was a lot busier than we were expecting & less friendly than other Italian cities. There were many shops, quite pricey, as well as a variety of street stalls, so a busy bustling City.

    The city is incredibly charming, with a vibe that feels much more Austrian than Italian. It’s also surrounded by plenty of beautiful hikes (which I wish I’d had time to do!). I only stayed for two days, and while one day is enough to see the city itself, the real highlight is exploring the trails and nature nearby. The food is distinctly Austrian, hearty and delicious, and the bakeries are absolutely fantastic.

    Felt like Austria in Italy.

    Felt like Austria in Italy. Wonderful, relatively easy hike along the Freud Promenade (after a wonderfully long cable car ride with panoramic Alpine views) to a village where he got married and summered frequently. The Great Dolomites road was stunning. Otis the Copper Age mummy was well displayed quite interesting.

    Bolzano the town itself is really beautiful, many nice shops. The restaurants on offer were also very good and easy to get around. We went up to Ober Bolzano with the big cable car ride, it was amazing the views of the Dolomites unbeatable. What an amazing experience and the people of Bolzano are extremely welcoming and friendly, the service excellent

    Bolzano is gorgeous, and lots of different things to do. I wouldn’t spend more than 4 days in it. Renting a car would help to see the region and reach more places. We had a medical emergency and found the pharmacies easy to rich and very polite people. In general liked the people in Bolzano , polite and helpful. Only thing I did not like is how confusing and regimented was to dispose of garbage. Getting around is very easy by public transportation.

    We didn’t know much about Bolzano before arriving and were really impressed. The centre is easy to walk around and beautiful with historic buildings any mountains in the background. Pizza and ice cream a definate hit! The archeology museum was excellent - not to be missed and never forgotten! We also loved going up in the cable car - absolutely stunning. We only had about 3 hours up the top and could definitely spent longer walking and exploring.

    It's a Budget friendly Property, compared to other B&B's hotels AirBnb's in Bolzano. Location is Perfect( town center) Staff is prompt to respond to any questions.. The staff let us check in before check in time, as room was already done! At check out, we left bags and picked up before train departure. Building code, and rooma acces through Vikey(app) was easy. (ps.. dont get your mobile phone drained😊) We had a comfortable stay to conclude. Definitely we'll be staying here again😁.

    Location - on central square of the old town but also 5-10 mins walk to train and bus stations. Very big room, felt more like a suite than regular hotel room (i just moved to a different place and hotel and i’m writing this from a room which is smaller than a bathroom i had in Greif…). Good breakfast, at first it looks rather basic but you can order many things like eggs or toasts from the staff and they will bring them fresh.

    Breakfast was excellent. A good variety of items, breads, yogurts, fresh fruit, etc. The hotel has a well maintained garden in and around a swimming pool. Designer elements in the rooms, some with balconies. Gym was small but offered everything one needs for a solid workout. Visitors card allowed for free bus to and from downtown Bolzano.

    What an amazing new hotel. The location is so central in Bolzano, an easy walk from the station and they even provide bicycles for you to use around town! The rooms are beautifully furnished, the beds and bedding so incredibly comfy. The breakfast each morning was fantastic too. Highly recommended.
