Visit to the historical Tharangabadi Dutch Fort was a bit of a dissapointment. Not maintened well. The Exhibits have true value but not displayed well. The shore temple is being maintened fairly well by the devotees. The beach is an added attaction specially for the youngstes. The cute harbour with the fishing village is an added attraction. All these places are short walking distance from the resorts close to the beach. Attention should be given to the surroundings, it is littered with plastic bottles, wrappers, cow dung etc. The fruit vendors should ensure hygeine in display and serving. The Navagraha temples are short drives from Tharangapadi. It could be used as a base to plan close by temple visits (Thirukadiyur, Thirunallar are just 15-20 min drives).

Difficult to get to unless you have your own car.

Difficult to get to unless you have your own car. The last 30 km of roads to the location is under construction and can be a nightmare. The nearby fort and museums are a total let down. Poorly maintained with nothing of significance. Go here if you only want to laze around in the pool or relax without having anything to do.

In late medieval times, India became a magnet for colonial powers. The Portuguese, the French and the British ruled over parts of India for centuries. Even the Dutch have left minor footprints behind. Not many know that Denmark was part of the colonial enterprise. Tranquebar, now Tharangambadi, was a Danish colony till 1845. The Danes created a small town on European lines here. The fort, the church, the under-restoration governor's building, the cemetery as well as several other buildings are reminders of that time. There's a small museum too. The hotel too was an old colonial building. In recent years, authorities, including the Danish government, have played their part in restoring some buildings. We also visited a small temple complex. But the beach and the sea are the former coastal colony's premier and prime attractions. You can enjoy the sea in its majesty and the beach in its unspoiled beauty. Day-trippers are few. To sum up, if colonial history interests you, this is a super place for you. Even if it doesn't, the beach, the sea and the hotel ensure that your holiday is unforgettable.

Tarangambadi is a beautiful location to be visited.

Tarangambadi is a beautiful location to be visited. Wonderful, peace giving location with the sea, a very old temple full of energy which attracts a lot. The Danish fort is nice but nothing to visit, left alone without proper maintenance. It must be taken care. The surrounding area is full of plastic spoons, bags, papers all around. Environmental awareness boards have to be kept. People should be aware of the danger of this irresponsibility. Beautiful hotels amidst such an area is curious. How come these hotels do not care or aren't bothered about their surrounding areas ? It's really a pity. We, as tourists regret a lot. Just good hotels do not make us happy. And i think this should not be the aim of the hotels too. Please do something to maintain this wonderful location.

tranqauil. i very much enjoyed seeing the historical buildings. some of them are more than 300 years old. including the churches, governors bungalow (both nearby), the collectors bungalow(this property) and the fort. as the fort is closed on fridays, i could not go inside.
