What a fabulous house and grounds! Fascinating history! Service was excellent - food was very good. Wonderful to be able to listen to the musical performance. Marvellous to sleep with an open window. The room was good but only one pillow. No tea/coffee facilities in the room. Unable/ difficulties in climbing into the bath to have a shower. The sides of the bath were too high. This is an awesome place to get away from it all. It’s an art college with hotel rooms. The pluses were that it has a great relaxing vibe, no TV in the room, a beautiful landscape, great staff, and it’s a lovely building. If you lock your phone away you really can get away from it all. The minuses were (in our room - can’t talk for the other rooms) a pitiful shower, a double bed (who has double beds any more), the set meal times have limited food choices, and you can’t nip out for supplies because you’re 20 minutes in the car from anywhere. Its a beautiful house in magnificent grounds. There's a buzz of creative activity about West Dean which is what will entice me back to attend one of their many courses. We ate in the local pub, as we only stayed one night: a very pleasant but not too long a walk away. Look out for the peacock on the roof of a house in the village, he'll certainly make his presence felt. Our room was lovely, the bed extremely comfortable, all our needs anticipated with a hair dryer, iron etc, and the ensuite bathroom very luxurious. I couldn't have wished for more. Really enjoyed the outdoor pool for daily swim, although changing facilities very basic & rather a trek from the main house. An evening meal was available, but not taken. Disappointed in cooked breakfast choice, although cold buffet bits were good. Comfy room. Helpful staff. Lovely grounds. Ideal for a quiet escape. THis is a unique and very special place, hard to compare wit anywhere else because it is a beautiful building, run very efficiently but with friendly staff. The interior, the furniture, the art, which surrounds guests at every steps create a very special unforgettable atmosphere. The other thing is a gorgeous pristine nature, which surrounds the building on a magnificent scale. Very comfortable room and bed, perfect for a good night’s rest before and after the race. Breakfast was lovely and all the staff were helpful and accommodating. They even provided an early morning breakfast for runners the day of the race.
