A park with boating pond and a ride on miniature steam train. The fun fair for more adventurous types. A fabulous beach with a walkway. The pier - one of the longest in the country. Roman ruins for historic buffs. Not a great place to shop but only a short metro ride to Newcastle. Ferry across the Tyne to North Shields

South Shields is a great place with very friendly people.

South Shields is a great place with very friendly people. Prices are reasonable and there are several places to drink and eat. Like lots of other seaside towns there are several closed shops and shopping is mainly cheap shops and charity shops. The Roman village is fabulous as is the ferry across to North Shields. The beach is great and it feels safe to walk about

First visit to South Shields and we were surprised at how empty it felt of visitors in early June for such a nice clean place with many fine parks and coastal walks to try out. Sandy beaches and loads of restaurants to try out too. We stayed in a flat in Henry Nelson Street and with 20 minutes you could walk to enjoy sea views and clean beaches or go the other way into Town. Many fine coastal walks could be had within a 10 minute drive or 35 minute walk away. A place that is worth a revisit in my opinion.

Perfect. Plenty to see and do. The beach is immaculate.

Perfect. Plenty to see and do. The beach is immaculate. Parks the same lovely to walk and enjoy a proper seaside vibe! The fair is excellent and ocean roads restaurants -well you’re spoilt for choice. It could do with a few more bars to call and have a drink or two before your meal. The Roman fort remains are worth a visit too!

Beach front very pleasant, developed since the last time I visited. Ocean Road improvement in looks.. King Street looking a little tired, but development is underway. Facilities for parking could be improved especially for disabled people. Customs House a great pull for visitors, especially around Christmas time. Plenty of places to eat.

High standard room with regard to decor and facilities so it was easy to forget that The Clifton is a bed and breakfast establishment, rather than a hotel. Good choice at breakfast, which was served quickly. I appreciated the electric fan in my room in the hot weather. Friendly, helpful staff. Thank you for the help with my case. Good location, midway between beach and metro. Close to parks and leisure centre too. Just under a mile stroll to ferry to North Shields.

A fantastic location. Beach on the doorstep & was able to walk into South Shields / Pleasure Beach / Metro station / Ferry landing to visit other places. Breakfast was lovely - a good variety of food available. Room was nice and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant was great - lovely food - had breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Really good location for south shields metro and plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance. The bath is lovely and having Netflix was a bonus. Communication with property managers was excellent and the property was easy to find. Didn't use the parking but it would have been easy to park outside.

Good value for money. Better than getting two separate hotel rooms. Comfortable beds and living room. Bedding, kitchen and bathroom all very clean. Reasonable distance to seafront.
