As we live in Sidmouth, the hotel wasn't far from home. The town is unspoilt(so far!) with a nice atmosphere, plenty of choice of shops, (few big names like Crew Company/Fat Face/Edinburgh Woolen Mill) plus lots of cafes and restaurants. The beach is shingle except when tide is out. Thankfully NO amusement arcades! Delightful area near beach for walking (Jacob's Ladder) as well as Connaught Gardens. Sidmouth itself is a delightful coastal town with spectacular views. Unfortunately, it is let down by poor/average restaurants.
