We wanted to spend New Year in Scotland as our daughter and...
We wanted to spend New Year in Scotland as our daughter and family are moving to Australia in spring. Langholm may only "just" be over the border but we enjoyed (two) pipers at mid night and a marching silver band the following morning. The rivers flowing through the town were high as a result of recent rain and were an attraction for our grandson who took to collecting some stones to take away. The High St has a number of local shops, a Londis food shop and the Coop supermarket is about a 10 minute walk south of the house. A lovely area which provides some lovely walks of varying lengths (downloadable from the Langholm Walks website) and some interesting history. It is a quiet and peaceful and can be used as a base to visit attractions further afield.Guest review bySueUnited Kingdom

They provided me with a meal even though they had finished serving for the evening. They also provide ear plugs to counter the noise from the road traffic at night. This is caused by the ever increasing number of timber lorries bombing up and down the country roads (and certainly not at 20mph in the town).
