Very small place but there is a hotel and presumably a bar too. Wee roll shop which does great breakfast rolls and sandwiches. Fabulous bakers too. We were on Arran to swim so didn’t use much of the facilities in BWF other than the beach.

Blackwaterfoot has well stocked general store and post office, and the harbour shop has good supply of cards, newspapers, gifts. There is also a local butcher. We stayed at Kinloch Hotel which serves meals throughout the day, has a well stocked bar and a swimming pool for residents. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The hotel also has a laundry and drying room and self catering flats. From our bedroom we looked out towards Kintyre and enjoyed watching the seals and the bird life. We walked along the beaches and had both strenuous and flat inland walks. You can also explore Arran's ancient history with many standing stones up the west coast e.g. at Machrie - a few miles from Blackwaterfoot. There are a number of gold courses nearly - with the Shiskine course (12 holes with great views) at Blackwaterfoot being a real treasure We used a car but there is a bus service to Brodick from Blackwaterfoot.

Its peaceful and quiet and the beach goes on a long way. if you want to move away from tourist parts this is for you. The locals drink in the pub part of the hotel and were very friendly. There is a little shop that sells amazing bread and patisseries from 11 till sold out. A place to just decompress and slow the pace down, with mid morning coffees and walking on the beach, and scuffling all the lovely dogs out walking. Not many shops but those that were there, all friendly. You can feel the 'community'. Star gazing spectacular when move away from the light of the little center part.

If you want a more peaceful location then Blackwaterfoot is the place last time I was in Whiting Bay, but had visited Blackaterfoot on the bus, its got a few shops, and a golf course with a decent restaurant and walks along the coast can go to the King's Caves where legend says Robert the Bruce hid. The hotel was adequate lovely lounge so somewhere to sit after dinner instead of the usual room !!! You can often see seals. The only place to eat is the hotel, so pre-booking is recommended if you want to go somewhere else.
