    Everything was near perfect.

Everything was near perfect. Food, staff, Tracey the manager, rooms, location and ambience. Our only recommendation is try to get a room not over the bar. Noise on Friday and Saturday was a bit inconvenient for sleep.

An interesting little town as there are the remains of a huge bishop's palace (free) just across from the hotel plus wildlife ponds. An easy run in the car to the P&R for either Winchester or Portsmouth. Hotel full of character and each room named after a ship that fought at the battle of Trafalgar. Food at the hotel was good but we had our favourite meal at Georgios nearby - but need to book!

We were only in Bishops Waltham for one night at a private family birthday party (Giorgio's Meditteranean Restaurant, which I can also highly recommend). We stayed at The Crown (again, highly recommended). When we first checked in, it was heaving with rugby fans! Great atmosphere and a fabulous setting. Lots of history about the Battle of Trafalgar in the hotel. Really fascinated for a history buff. The room itself was great and a hugely comfortable stay. Breakfast was a 10/10. Walked around the town on the Sunday just before having lunch at The Crown (again, highly recommended). Visited the churchyard, the ponds and finally the English Heritage site that was the ruins of the former Bishops Waltham Palace. Of great historical interest to me! I understand they hold festivals here in the summer. During the walk I could see that there were quite a few boutique-type shops and the odd cafe. Shame they were closed on a Sunday, but you can't have it all! Altogether it was a really enjoyable 24 hours! Would definitely return given the opportunity, particularly to explore the local area more.

An interesting town (they call it a village) with a lively street of shops. Lots of flowers on the buildings and some very nice gift shops as well as the usual butchers, bakers, and choice of coffee shops. It is mid-way between Portsmouth and Winchester and the site of the old Abbey with lots of interesting information boards (FOC English Heritage). Also an interesting museum in the grounds. Due to the Reformation, the Abbey is a ruin, but lovely to walk around especially with a dog. The town is at the source of the River Hamble and there are two large lakes and many, many swans.

I needed to complain most strongly about a 2 night stay in The Crown Inn, Bishop's Waltham. We booked it thinking it would be a good place to take some friends for dinner whist on our trip South from Yorkshire. We had booked two dinners, one for 3 people and one for 5 people on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights. On the Tuesday afternoon, just 3 hours before our booking we were informed that there was a "problem with the kitchen" and they had to cancel our two bookings. Strangely they could still provide our two booked breakfasts. The room was lovely, but we noticed at once that the waste plug in the washbasin wouldn't work properly. We coped with it that night and then the next morning there was no hot water! We were told that the gas had tripped and it would be sorted. We reported the washbasin problem and was told that would be sorted. The room was not serviced during the day. We were told when we left that we should have requested the room service, but we hadn't been told this. So we didn't get any replacement coffee. tea, or water. Also the water in the washbasin was still cold and the waste tap had still not been repaired by the evening. The water was still cold that night and in the morning. Fortunately the shower was presumably electric as it worked well. On the positive side we had four excellent breakfasts, but the service was rather slow. It was useful to be able to recharge our electric vehicle overnight. We paid £318 for these two nights, but did feel that we should be eligible for some sort of refund as this is hardly the sort of accommodation we would expect for that price. I await your response.

Bishops Waltham is a large village/small town which has many attractive buildings, very typical of the Hampshire area. Good selection of restaurants/pubs. The ruins of the Bishops palace are free to wonder round. The town itself is close to several further places of interest with Winchester about 20 mins away, Portsmouth which can be accessed via road or train - we took the train from Fareham which was about 20 mins and took us to Portsmouth harbour station next to which is the Gun Wharf shopping centre and the historic docks. Marwell Zoo also close by as is the coast. Lots of very attractive villages and countryside including the Meons and Hambledon which close by has the famous Bat & Ball pub with lots of cricket memorabilia.

Brilliant location in a charming town. This hotel has such amazing history and character and the general decor and condition of the building celebrates this beautifully. The room all of this whilst being very comfortable. Breakfasts and meals were great and being able to eat in the bar area with our dog was great. The staff were very accommodating.
