Beautiful way to enter the Yorkshire Dales area.

Beautiful way to enter the Yorkshire Dales area. Great walking everywhere (Hadrian's wall + walks along the river), train runs through the town. Had not heard of it before we came, but were most impressed.

It is a really good area to stay as it is close to so many attractions. On the River Eden with beautiful walks and views. Excellent places to eat in Armathwaite and nearby. (highly recommend Fox and Pheasant). You need your own transport to get around. We have not found anything to avoid in the 4 years we have been coming here and come at least twice yearly.

There is so much to explore in the area as it is close to Scottish border and 'The Lakes'. There is something to see and somewhere to go in every direction. I ate at several local places. The Fox and Pheasant do really good meals/snacks and I had a lovely Sunday Lunch with relations at 'The Heather Glen country house'. You really need to have your own transport for this area to be able to explore. I don't think I have found anything to avoid yet in 4 years of coming here.

Great base for exploring the Lakes.

Great base for exploring the Lakes. Armathwaite is very scenic and a good walking area. Also situated on the Settle to Carlisle railway. We had all of our meals at the Fox and Pheasant. The food was excellent. We did call for a coffee at the other pub in the village, The Dukes Head, this was also very nice and friendly.
