FAQs about hotels in Saint Malo

Walled Gateway to France

One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.

The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.

Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.

The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.

In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.

St Malo feels llike several very different cities in one - the old town, St Servan, Solidor and beautiful Dinard just a short ferry ride away. Every part of the city had cafes and restaurants and we loved the markets, parks and beaches.

A fabulous place to get lost in, there's a cafe or shop around every corner, and lots of interesting shops and architecture! Creperie des Bes and Le Biniue are a must-visit for lunch or dinner! Both are small, friendly and have a great attitude to food! Restaurant Bougeotte and Madlenn Boulangerie Patisserie are just great for breakfast!

St Malo offers everything a tourist could possibly want as well as the area being of great historical importance. Many French people come to the area to see something very different to modern cities and there is a wide spread of prices in the hotels, restaurants and attractions that ensure enjoyment for single travellers or families with children of all ages. The beaches and aquarium are two examples and there is also a casino if you want to try your luck. My favourite restaurants are along the walls that stretch from La Duchess Ann by the main entrance to well inside the town. The walled town is very compact and best explored on foot, while new rail links make connections to Paris and other locations easy. For drivers, you can quickly be on your way in any direction thanks to good road signs and fast access to a good network of motorways or the more picturesque route nationals.

    Wonderful place to decompress!

Wonderful place to decompress! The old town with its ramparts, restaurants, art vendors was so easily accessible and fun. I had one of the best meal of the entire trip! When it was windy, the beach afforded us plenty of entertainment with many windsurfers practicing their sports. The next morning the beach was calm and so relaxing. Saint Malo is definitely a comeback destination!

The room, the bed and the bathroom, including a very comfortable bathtub, are very spacious. The location is perfect, which is of course also due to the fact that the old town is rather small within the city walls. It is easy to get to the beach from anywhere or to the centre of Saint-Malo. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The hotel and the surrounding area are relatively quiet (which unfortunately cannot be said for the seagulls that make a fuss day and night :D).

Luxury room at budget pricing, superb breakfast, soundproof room (exceptional for a Hotel!), relaxed atmosphere, facilities, very friendly staff. Frankly, I hesitated booking this because of the less favourable reviews. But having been there in person, I guess things have improved considerably, because this turned out to be my favourite place during our Normandie / Bretagne vacation. This Hotel was a great experience all around.
