We travelled from Italy avoiding the tour de France route so...
We travelled from Italy avoiding the tour de France route so passing by Susa, Moncenisio (we know this area pretty well, our first stop is always the bakery for our butter pastries.), Modane and saint Jean du Maurienne and then up to Montvernier, fantastic road from there to the hotel at Montaimont. Two roads lead up to Montvernier and one is like Alps d'huez! It's a lovely area. Great free Opinel museum at saint Jean du Maurienne. Sain Francois Longchamp looks like a mega ski resort, fantastic. The hotel is in the village of Montaimont about 3km below the resort of Saint-Francoise-Longchamp. A perfect, scenic setting and excellent base if you have a car. We arrived when there was no snow whatsoever below 2000, which meant driving was very easy. There was a car park opposite the hotel, with electric charging points for electric bicycles.
