    It is a medieval hilltop village in the middle of the Rioja...

    It is a medieval hilltop village in the middle of the Rioja region. Very quaint. The views across all the vineyards are stunning and Vivanco Wine museum is very nearby. It’s fascinating and has been listed by UNESCO as the largest in Europe. The Santa Maria is a beautiful hotel with an excellent restaurant. Two days is enough to get the best out of Briones.

    Lovely quaint town that instantly brought a sense of calmness, we couldn’t help but feel relaxed. The cafes and restaurants all had a great selection of pinxtos and we had a fantastic dinner in Asador los Nietos on one evening. Briones is a good place to base yourself to tour the wineries but there are also plenty of bodegas in the town, we happened to arrive when a festival was taking place and visited 5 bodegas each with their own tasting seminar. There was live music in the square that evening also and a great buzz about the place. The locals were all friendly and welcoming despite our Spanish not being very good!

    It was a pleasure to stay at this hotel in a very good location for exploring La Rioja region. Very convenient, spotless clean, with own parking and an inner yard, and excellent breakfast with local hams/cheese, homemade pastry, fresh orange juice, fruits, etc. served by a most friendly host)))
