A 7000 Year Old Mediterranean Jewel

Embraced by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and caressed by the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Nowadays, this modern city boasts a bustling harbour, great Spanish nightlife, charming old streets and modern beach resorts.

Overlooking the city from the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara was built in the 9th century during Islamic rule. Cascading down the slopes towards the city centre, L'Ereta Park has terraced levels that offer stunning panoramic views of the city. The remains of the ancient Roman town of Lucentum are also just a few kilometres away.

Barrio de la Santa Cruz is the historic quarter, featuring narrow streets, old houses and cobbled steps. Framed by palm trees and covered with a snaking pattern of white, red and blue tiles, the Explanada de Espana is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful promenades.

    some excellent restaurants in the old town , really good fish dishes , we found a lovely friendly tapas bar /cafe just across from a beautiful church called Basicilica Santa Maria , very well looked after with the nicest glass of Rioja and delicious tapas we returned three times, Taxis wee easily available and very reasonable

    We felt the most comfortable just strolling along the Explanada and the beach promenade. The area around Postiguet Beach quickly became our favorite spot – close to everything, yet relaxed and full of life. We tried several local restaurants and tapas bars in the city center. There are so many options, from casual tapas places to seafood restaurants. One of the highlights was enjoying fresh paella by the beach. We only used public transport to get to and from the airport. Instead, we rented bikes from BlueBike to explore the area. They offer both city trekking bikes and e-bikes, and the shop was just a 5-minute walk from the apartment. It was a great way to get around and see more of the city at our own pace. We would recommend walking up (or taking the lift) to Santa Bárbara Castle for the amazing views, spending time on the beach, and exploring the old town with its small streets and bars.

    Alicante is a much more than a seaside resort. It is a vibrant and prosperous city that has a lot to offer tourists who appreciate history, culture, quality shopping, clean streets, excellent beaches, and very good food at affordable prices.

    We have been travelling each year to Alicante for the last 15 years and we love it. It is a lovely city with a beautiful beach. It has an authentic Spanish feel to it and the wonderful restaurants are too numerous to count. You have the Old Town which comes alive at night with lots of bars and restaurants, the same in the streets leading to the 'Mushroom Street' and the recently refurnished Marina. The jewel in the crown however is the fantastic beach, with the added bonus that this year the sunbeds were at a reduced price( 24euros - 2beds and umbrella). There is also the tram which can take you as far as Benidorm and all the towns in between.

    We liked how close everything was in the old town, beach, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, market if you want a relaxing holiday it's perfect. However Alicante is a big place if you like to walk and there is much much more to see and do.

    We have stayed in Alicante before on short visits.

    We have stayed in Alicante before on short visits. It is a great city, a laid back version of Barcelona, with a variety of places to see and enjoy. We did a walking tour this time and discovered even more about the city's history and culture. Castille St Barbara is worth a visit and the interior of San Nicholas cathedral is stunning. Pop into the impressive Town Hall to see the Salvador Dali statue on a square with great cafes. The harbour walk past the Casino is pleasant, with a stop off at Samoa Cafe del puerto for a cocktail. We ate in Nueve Pizzeria, a modest but welcoming family run eaterie, excellent pizzas and friendly service.

    An exciting adventure of a hotel with world's best receptionists and management who did their best to fulfill every need or request i had during my 4 days stay. It really felt like home to be there - soundproof rooms, extravagant interior design, amazing smell and quality of body care products and the hotell itself, and not to mention its amazing location in the heart of everything - Postiguet beach, Old city, restaurants, etc. Will absolutely come back there should i travel to Alicante once more. :)

    Basic but well kept, clean hotel with small but seems modern, renovated room. Equipped with all the nessessary things exept a fridge, what is a big disadvantage. Maybe thats why one of the cheapest hotel in Alicante. Reception stuff is kind, helpful. Location is really gond but the beach is 15-20minutes away.. But 5 minutes from airport bus, mercado, szupermarket, city centre. Breakfast in thr Coffee shop of the hotel in the hotel building.

    Outdoor area - the pool was great and the trees and plants were well kept and provided lots of privacy. Location to sandy beach, local bars/cafes and tram station just 10 minutes walk away is very helpful - also easy to get into Alicante city centre or to Benidorm via tram. The immediate neighbourhood is nice and quiet.
