We booked this last minute for a family break - family of 4, used to holidaying in Germany with 1 fluent German speaker. The apartments were easy to find. The location of Winsen (Luhe) is great if you want to be able to get into Hamburg and is within easy driving distance of Lüneberg, Lübeck and Bremen. Driving to the coast would also be feasible as well as exploring the beautiful countryside around. There are supermarkets very nearby the apartments and some of the best ice cream/Gelato we have ever tried in the town of Winsen itself. The apartment is one of the best thought out, well equipped and comfortable we have ever stayed in. Free parking and WiFi is a huge bonus. Everything in the apartment is fresh, new and clean. Toiletries , dish soap, dishwasher tablets etc are supplied, as were plenty of towels. Although there were still contractors and finishing work going on in the units opposite, the apartment itself was very quiet and there was no problem with noise at night. The comfy seating area is confined to one of the bedrooms but we didn't consider this a big problem for a week's break. There are a few things to be aware of, explained below, but we felt it didn't really detract from this being really fantastic, convenient and good value accommodation, which we would happily use again.

A lovely German family welcomed us into their home. A beautiful bedroom, with a large comfortable bed, and access to a dream bathroom. The house is set amongst woodlands near a small village. It is an easy 25 minutes by car to drive into Hamburg, where we visited Miniatur World. Parking there was $2 per hour, and it is open until midnight. Think about having a tour of the river, but keep in mind the tides or you will miss out on the best bit. Plus keep in mind; on some river cruises, the operator only speaks German.
