We loved learning more of the history of Berlin and seeing...

We loved learning more of the history of Berlin and seeing the reconstruction that took place after the devastation of the Second World War. The memorials to those murdered in the war were powerful and sobering and we appreciated the efforts by the people of Germany to acknowledge their part in that dark part of history. We searched out German food and enjoyed some great meals. Several great places we ate were close to our hotel and that was especially convenient. The transportation on the trams and subway was excellent. It made exploring the large city easy. Don't miss seeing the Topography of Terror museum. Free to visit and a very moving experience.

We visit Berlin every year, great public transport, free walking tours, great for cycling, so much to see and do, we always try something new or different each visit - museums, boat tours, historical sites, food - Mitte (sites, museums, River Spree waterfront walks, live music, street performers), Holztmarkt (outdoor food/ drink and market), Kreuzberg (nightlife, cafes, food, people watch, walks), Bergmannkiez (food), Neukolln (food, cafes), Charlottenburg (sites, history, cafes, people watch), Friedrichshain (food, cafes, Friday nightlife).

There is a lot to look at in Berlin, public transport is good but if you are prepared to walk you will find many interesting buildings and canal walks. Not far from Berlin HBF is the Hamburg HBF, which has a range of art installations inside that are well worth looking at and listening to, worth the entrance fee. Just at the back of the building is a canal that I wandered along and came across an old East German look out tower, you can climb to the top and experience the not so good Berlin history, entrance is free to the tower. It's known as the Gunter Litfin Memorial,

Berlin is a city that ticks a lot of boxes.

Berlin is a city that ticks a lot of boxes. Really interesting from a historical point of view, great transport, good for shopping and plenty of restaurants. Also, prices are not too high, certainly cheaper than Dublin! Lots of beautiful parks. Also, take a trip to Potsdam and Wansee, a short, easy journey from Berlin.

Berlin s easy to get around on public transportation.

Berlin s easy to get around on public transportation. I highly recommend a walking tour with a guide when you first arrive. We saw all of the major highlights in the 3 hour tour. Much of the city is oversized and spacious which I didn't expect. The city looks like it is in constant rebuilding mode. We ended up being there during the 2025 Berlin Marathon so there were crowds everywhere. It still didn't hamper our experience though. We were planning on joining the Hop On Hop Off Bus, but the day we wanted to do it was Sunday - Marathon day - and the buses were not running. We did take a river cruise which was enjoyable. If I return - I will add in a day to visit Potsdam at the very least. I recommend no less than 4 days to visit the city. 5-6 would allow for a quick day to Potsdam and maybe some other attractions outside of central city.

This was a very pleasant hotel stay. The room was comfortable and had all the necessary facilities. The staff at reception were pleasant. The hotel is located in the upmarket area of Charlottenburg in West Berlin. There are some nice restaurants and a convenience store close by. It is a walk of less than 5 minutes to the delightful Sophie-Charlotte-Platz Metro Station - which feels like you have stepped back into the 1930s - for metro trains into the city centre. The pretty Charlottenburg Palace is a 15-minute or so walk away.

Whenever we fly back into Germany (my country of birth) from New Zealand we actually look at flights into Berlin first although this requires a train over to Cologne in the very west at the end. I guess this statement would already be enough of a compliment for the city and the Sorat Hotel in particular but I can be more precise: We love the reliable warm welcome, the appealing interior design of the rooms , the great location and the free choice of crunchy croissants and really good coffee in the morning.

Really nice stay! The hotel is in an excellent and peaceful location with a supermarket, coffee shops and a couple of restaurants within five minutes walk, and there is also a U Bahn stop close by which makes it easy to get into Berlin city centre. The staff were friendly and the room fairly comfortable and spacious. Our air con broke, and they moved us immediately to a different room on the same floor.
